Wheel box size?

Anyone have the dimensions of an average wheel box? I wanna run 'em through the UPS/FedEx calculator to see how raped I’m getting by this dimensional weight bullshit.

And in line with that…any suggestions for beating the system and saving a few bucks?

Well, a 700C wheel is 27" across. So roughly 29x29x7.

Do you mean the cardboard boxes? It’s still pretty cheap to send those…probably $20-$30 ground shipping. However, the cheapest way I found to ship wheels was honestly through the USPS.

Dont go to a UPS store, they always cost more, instead find a place that ships UPS. Here in IL Ace Hardware stores ship UPS, I have shipped bike frames in their origional box for $17.

The boxes that I use to ship a pair of wheels in is 32" x 26" x 7".

Express Mail is usually the best value at around $40.

i’ve sent wheels USPS with no problems. i actually took a bike box and cut and taped it to fit. it’s very close on the dimensions that USPS will accept.
one way to keep the price down is to put weight in the box. yes, make it heavier. USPS has a ‘balloon’ charge if the box is too light for the size. i forget what it is, you’ll have t ask. so, you end up sticking a bunch of newspapers in there to make weight. kinda strange. what’s it gonna float away…
