What's your drop

from the saddle to the aerobars?

(measureing from a horizontal level to the top of the pads)

Mine: 19.5cm

Yours?

g

20cm
.

24 cm
.

After a lot of work I am pleased to brag that mine is 17.5 cms. Low to go.

my point is that I am documenting my bikes…

and I am now curious for those of you who have numbers lower than mine…

  1. are your elbows @ 90 and/or vertical of the shoulders?

which is…

  1. are your shoulders @ or below your hips?

you can see here http://wattagetraining.com/ttSetup/ that my shoulders are ~inline w/ my hips and my back is flat (sorry these are old and new ones are forthcoming)…

you can also see it is kinda a hybrid superman as my arms - the bar ends are ~24cm in front of front wheel centerline…

thanks,

g

Right now it’s 16.5cm (as low as it’ll get with Syntace Streamliners, even with a Ritchey adjustable stem all the way down), but it’s gonna get a whole lot lower as soon as my Profile T2+ arrives on Friday. Oh yeah, baby!

21.5cm… pic is taken on a slight uphill… so when on flat drop will look “better”

Mine is 12cm. Don’t tell my wife, though, I told her it was 24!

My elbows are vertical to the shoulders and my hips are very near to being the same height as my hips. As mentioned in my earlier answer 24 cm below.

nice… you may not need to be that low…

your helmet is LOWER than your hips…(in the pic) perhaps a controlled photo would show that or not… but there probably isn’t much reason to have your head (top of helmet that is) below the highest point on you butt/back…

just a thought…

Looks like about 12 cm right now, but I am a) not dialed in yet, and b) not on the stem that I really want yet.

Holy shit Bjorn.

This is interesting. I wonder how many people are ruining their run in an attempt to have a really low TT position on their bike.

Monkey see monkey do.

dunno - I don’t run - I just hang out here :stuck_out_tongue:

Why would riding in aerodynamic position hurt somebody’s running ability? Isn’t the ability to run well conditioned on (1) running fitness, and (2) how hard they biked in the race?

“Why would riding in aerodynamic position hurt somebody’s running ability?”

I didn’t say riding in an aerodynamic position could hurt one’s running ability (anybody in the aero bars is technically riding an aerodynamic position). I implied that riding in an inappropriate position could hurt one’s running ability (not to mention slow down their bike due to compromising power for a more aero position).

Sadly, I think mine is around 1cm or 2cm. If my aerobars were any higher, I might almost have a negative drop. I have to train to get lower soon , but then I’d need a new stem and stuff.

Do you guys think a less powerful rider will be optimized in terms of speed in a more aero position than an equivalent rider who puts out more power? Seems like there could be a variety of reasons for this, but I’ll let someone else figure it out.

 I know that’s what you meant. I was just making the point for the viewing public.

a) Please explain why you think that a low position is an inappropriate position.

b) Please explain why you think that anyone riding aero bars is technically riding in an aerodynamic position.
