What's up with my powertap?

Hey folks.

Relatively new to training with power and am wondering if anyone here can help me out.

I am using a powertap SL+ that I started using this year… I am reading it on a Garmin Edge 500.

During a session on the indoor trainer today with 10 x 2 km repeats I noticed it seemed to be reading quite low… I figured this was maybe attributable to being on the trainer… then eventually, it started reading extremely low.

I was averaging 37-39 km/h for speed, and 165 -170 bpm (aproximately 85% hr). I was reading about 120 - 140 watts for each 2km repeat.

After the 6th rep… with the same HR input and speed results, the edge started reading between 60 and 75 watts (roughly half)… I was a bit baffled…

I just replaced the batteries in the hub last week… but otherwise, am not too savvy with powertap hub mechanics. If anyone has any advice or insight, I’d appreciate it for sure.

Many thanks,

I suspect it is broken. Did you buy it new? I would call them on Monday

no expert either but try zeroing the PT the way to do it is in the manual
.

have you changed the batteries? pretty simple place to start. If you haven’t and have been riding for a while with out more than likely they are dying.
