What's up with all the mavic shoes for sale on bonk town and chain love?

I jumped on the band wagon and purchased a set of mavic mtb shoes, they were priced amazingly, had a carbon base, and when I got them in the mail they fit great and I haven’t had any issues on the trail. Just curious if anyone has had any problems with their mavic shoes, and curious why there seems to be a huge flood of mavic shoes on bonktown n chainlove?

I have the Mavic track shoes and LOVE them.

I think Mavic has just had a hard time selling them because they’re new to the game, and have no reputation in shoes to speak of. I know that I like my current road shoes, and while I’m not opposed to a pair of Mavics, why not stick with what already works?

I’m sure once they’re around a bit longer and people get the word that they’re pretty good, they’ll be more popular.

damn you! your post sent me to bonktown, where i spent $96 on some bib knickers. Needed em though

Bonktown seems to have lots of Lakes and Mavics, and occasionally some Sidis and Bonts. Nothing wrong with any of these (note: the Lakes have a “high volume” fit that is great for orthotics, not so great without). The local pro shop here stocks Mavics (along with Shimano and Sidi), and hasn’t had any issues.

I bought a set of Lake tri shoes from Bonktown last month. First pair, I got the wrong size and they exchanged them for a bigger size (no questions asked. I did wear them for 2 rides).
The replacement pair that came had a crack in the carbon sole. I noticed it when I was putting the cleats on. I had a race in 7 days. Called Bonktown and they 2nd air’ed me a new set without charge (expecting I would send the cracked pair back, which I did).
Today, I saw the Lake road shoes (BOA system, not sure of the model) for $49. I am now waiting for them to arrive in a few days.
After seeing this thread, I went back to Bonktown and saw the LG one-piece tri-suit for $49. I was “this close” to pulling the trigger, but reminded myself that I need a new bike before I need any more gear.

That damn site has seriously created an addiction for me, if I haven’t checked bonktown within an hour I feel like I’m missing out on something that I desperately need. yes i need the 180mm suspension fork for my non existent downhill mountain bike that I ride in my imagination!!

Lake has left the US market. These are coming basically with no warranty as no one is around to back them up. Didn’t stop me from buying a second pair even though my first pair has a cracked sole…

I had the Mavic Zxellium shoes (in yellow). I love the look and like the fit. After about a season and a half I cracked the carbon sole up near the toe. A teammate of mine did the same. We are both under 165 pounds.

I still think they are great shoes and I’m getting my wife a pair of the tri heliums, but I’m hoping the sole lasts her a little longer. She has been on the same pair of sidis since 2006.

x2 on the Bonktown addiction. I check it every 1/2 hour!!!

Nothing against Mavic but this does happen with a certain regularity in many product categories with many brands when there has been an over-production of something, and sales/demand has not matched up. The manufacturer/Wholesaler then looks to move them through to retailers at fairly steep discounted prices, and then the retailer sells them at a very steep discounted price. Consumers temporarily get a great deal on something, but this is not sustainable in any way. However, expectations build up in the consumer world that this is what stuff should cost. Fortunately in the world of sports specialty this does not happen that much, thankfully - as the many smaller companies in the space keep a fairly tight control on production numbers. But in other consumer goods categories - general apparel, it goes on all the time, and whole wholesale and retail sub-businesses exist because of it. Think Winners, or TJ Maxx etc . .

I heard Lake is stopping US distribution, hence the bonktown flood.
