What's the strongest / most endurent chain out there?

for a 3500mi transcon ultegra-equipped ride ? don’t need or want extra headache…

anyone used rotor titanium chains?

Funny, I was just searching for a new chain and was going to ask the post the same thing. I’ve had SRAM and Wippermann, but after reading this chain wear test I’m switching back to Wippermann Stainless Steel. Hope it helps

Wow that is a great read thanks. Guess my streak of KMC’s is going to end.

This one is still going strong since 1778:

I’ve used and recommended Wipperman chains for years. Maybe a bit heavier than some of the competition, but they run well on various drivetrains and are idiot-proof to install or remove.

the more recent one ( note its by connex itself so there could well be some bias but its not that different and in fact the campag record beats the 2nd best connex hain unlike in the 2010 test so if anything that give confidence in their test )

This guy has been testing chains and lubricant as a true independent. It is worth spending the time to read his results.

Wipperman Connex 11SX or 10SX

Is that the one you are using , if yes given your treatment it might even last a bit longer ???

Yes they are the chains we use.

Our process makes them faster but the chain from any dealer out of the box is super strong and will last a long time.

… the Connex 11SX is a good choice (the best) … and with the Connex quick link easy to handle … even with the Connex you’ll need 2 chains for a transcon at least … otherwise the whole drive train will be toast at the end … mounting the quick link check for the “bigger” outside flap between the first two cogs and not skipping over at the smallest two cogs the closure ring for the cassette (if, turn the quick link) … have fun riding a continent !!

… double posting after an error message …

?? … post doesn’t push the thread ??

We could probably ask him since he’s likely completed it at least once.

But do you really think with proper lubrication a chain would fry a drivetrain in 3500 miles?

Take a look at the YBN chain. Been using them for a couple days of years and have negligible wear. Of course, I wax and clean them on a regular basis.

Frying 8 chains and riding a proper drive train a year I don’t only think it …

I know he’s mainly tested lubricants. Worth getting in touch with him as he will gladly share his knowledge!
