What's the deal with the shape of toeboxes these days?

They’re starting to look like Earth Shoes of the 70s. I’m having a hard time getting used to the look. Not to mention the moon boot look of the soles either.

Honestly I think it’s the best trend in shoe design in many many years. Pointed toe boxes never made sense and it’s refreshing to see some bigger brands embracing a more food shaped shoe. What a concept…

I agree, my feet are happy about it as well.

My toes enjoy the room in the Altra shoes I own.

finally people realised - function over fashion
.

That happened around 2007, after that they went to smaller toebox and now it looks like they are going back to wide.

Personally I dislike a large toebox cuz my feet slide around inside and I get blisters on the bottom of my toes.

It’s another reason I like runningwarehouse.com
They have specs for how big the toebox is, heal, volume, overall shape as well as other things about the shoes. I can stay away from big toebox/big volume shoes using them and get what fits me.

u mean the toe box should be as wide as the front of your foot? that would be logical!

Personally, I love it and so do my feet! I couldn’t give a rip what my running shoes look like: I just want them to work.

I don’t care what I look like as long as i’m fast
.

I have wide feet, and I need a lot of room through the toe box, so I think this is a good trend. I refuse to wear shoes that restrict my toes, and I think that is why I have never lost a toenail.

However, I could do without the thick soles. I like a minimalist sole.

What shoe besides Altra has a wide toebox shape?

bout dang time! I have Flintstone feet. Just wide with a normal arch. I wear flipflops 24/7 when I am not at work because I hate shoes.

Merrell Bare Access 4. Wide toe box so I can move my little piggies but mid to back of the foot is locked in like your balls in a vice after you get married.

I’ve got a few different ones. Some of the Mizuno trail shoes have the wider toebox and I just picked up a pair of Saucony Nomads for some longer trail stuff. On a side note, the Nomads might be the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. I want them to build a shoe with the same upper but with Road tread.

As a long time user of the Saucony Peregrine, I just picked up a pair of the Nomads and I love them. I run in trail shoes most of the winter, even on the roads, to be prepared for the occasional patch of snow or ice, and I think the outsoles on the Nomads are about perfect as a hybrid trail/road. They have enough traction for trails and snow, but they don’t feel clunky at all. The wide toebox keeps my pinky toes happy, but the snug heel cup keeps me from moving around. I was considering a move from Saucony to Altra just to get the wide toe box, but the Nomad is keeping me in Saucony for now.

And why do bike shoes seem to be behind the curve? Mine remind me of Steve Martin’s “Cruel Shoes” bit from the 1970’s.
