What's so bad about a MOP using Ostarine? (please be nice to me)

In reading the posts about a recent pro getting whacked for testing positive for Ostarine, it is causing me to think: why would a MOP, who will never be tested, NOT buy some Ostarine to better their performance?

Now, before you climax by attacking me, and accusing me of wanting Ostarine, please don’t - just stick to my question. It’s a question, that’s it. I just had a baby, and I won’t be racing for awhile. So, please enlighten me without judging me.

It seems like we have a lot of people that know their stuff (and science), and I am curios. Are there side effects? Is it an appeal to one’s moral compass that one ought not use Ostarine? While I understand why a pro should be cautions, what about a regular age groupers?

I have no axe to grind or opinion (based on solid evidence), I simply want to hear some thoughts. Thank you.

Simple. It’s cheating.

it’s banned right ? when then it’s cheating. Hell I have 3 sets of double letters in my name and won’t use it.

Would you race on an ebike?

Okay, sorry if I sound stupid. I guess I didn’t know there was an actual rule for AG’s.

However, with no testing in (or most) AG tri’s, it’s so incredibly easy for some Type-A yo-yo to use it since there is no testing.

My point: with no testing, we have to really really trust our competition.

I wouldn’t do it just because it ruins the whole point of training for me, which is personal betterment through training, without illegal aids.

I however, do seriously believe that in the not-too far off future, hormonal performance-enhancing supplementation will be the NORM for people in their 60s+, and possibly younger. And I’m not just talking athletes looking for a boost - I’m talking about general public.

It’ll just take one study to show that the side effects of these steroids in the older populace are small compared to real quality of life or even longevity gains, and all of a sudden, ‘doping’ will be mainstream.

Most peers here will find it beyond disrespectful as it is still doping whether you are caught or not. Fwiw, while you don’t think you will be tested you probably just opened up your chances of being tested 1000x. Is that worth the chance you end up as a headline, I don’t know, that is entirely up to you. It is also an experimental drug, so that is on your health, but that is not to say we haven’t found dangerous drugs after they were deemed safe anyway. I don’t know a lot about the drug.

I guess my question back, and I am not trying to judge, why would you want to knowingly take it? How is it going to better your life? Is it going to help you achieve something you otherwise would not be able to achieve?

You’re supposed to title the thread…“What’s so bad about a MOP using Ostarine? (asking for a friend)

Why would someone use it? What are the benefits? I ask simply because I don’t know. I did about 3 seconds of Google searching and the top results were all about building muscle mass. Doesn’t sound like something for the endurance crowd. Entirely possible I missed something.

Well, I’m thinking of the guy or gal who is close to a qualifying for Kona (not me), or hitting getting a sub 4:30 in a 70.3 (again, not me). Sure it’s cheating, but it’s easy to rationalize when we are in a sport that cares about speed, ranking, time, etc. I have no doubt that those cheaters still sleep well at night. Again, it’s too easy to rationalize.

Only took 10 minutes to ignore the question and cast judgment. Kudos to you, thank you for playing. Feel better?

Can someone enlighten me on the double letter in the name joke?

They can do my posts in one minute

Jeez dude (or dudette) lighten up, that was actually a joke. They’ve been nice so far, probably only because you asked them to.

You come on a training and racing site like ST and ask why not dope and don’t expect any pushback?

You seriously didn’t know the doping rules apply to AGers?

Can someone enlighten me on the double letter in the name joke?

I redonkoless (sp?) amount of cheaters that have been caught have double letters in their name…ie… Chris FrOOme . Just a joke because we have Lance Armstrong with no double letters.

When you qualify for Kona, correct me if I’m wrong, but I belive that you open yourself up to out of competition testing. Whereas prior to KQ, it’s only in competition they can test you for?

Whereas prior to KQ, it’s only in competition they can test you for?

You can be tested out of competition without KQing, but it’d likely only be if someone called the tip line on you, or something to that effect.

  1. you’d want to abstain because it’s on the banned list, i.e., it’s cheating.
  2. yes, AGers are subject to the banned list. not quite sure how you missed that.
  3. yes, AGers get caught. usually not because they stumbled into a random test. usually because USADA got tipped off to your anti-aging doctor or your bike racing club team, and sent a doping control officer to catch you on your way out of the clinic or at your weekly club ride.
  4. endurance athletes take anabolic steroids because they help in recovery, not because they help you gain muscle mass.
  5. if you get popped you’re only slightly better off than harvey weinstein.
  6. the person who joked about your thread title (i’m asking for a friend) made a good joke in good taste. it was not a slam on you.
  7. it’s perfectly fine to take ostarine. it’s just not fine to take ostarine and race.

The benefits for endurance athletes would be such things as making it easier to maintain low body fat, increased ability to handle high training loads, reduced recovery time, etc.

Well, it’s not like a Cat 3 roadie got busted for EPO at a Grand Fondo…
