Hi everyone, havent been online here for quite some time but thought you may want me to post the “whats new” threads I am working on for the new shoes for fall 2008.
Whats New Mizuno Fall 2008
Fall 2008 for mizuno will mostly be a 7/5/2008 release date for these products. I have no images of these shoes yet but will post them when I get them.
Wave Renegade 4 msrp is $120 a totally new shoe. Will undergo the change in lasting which most other models have already gone through so will be wider fitting than old versions of renegade with increased outsole base (surface contact) area. Split heel dynamotion upper as in new nirvana and creation. Thicker AP sockliner for feeling of more cushion. The full length wave plate is re-engineered with a softer lateral rubber half and beefy pebax plastic medially looks to be very controlling of OP. Has sensor point rubber posts medially as in nirvana. Is a full ounce lighter than brooks beast at 13.6 oz mens and 11.8 womens.
Wave Alchemy 8 same midsole/outsole/wave as in the Alch 7 with a different upper overlay configuration which includes dynamotion heel and adds a thicker AP sockliner going from 4.5 mm to 5 mm. Should be very similar in fit/function to the alchemy 7
Wave Precision 9 msrp increase $90 totally new shoe design but of course remains in performance neutral category. Now on the new neutral last so will fit somewhat wider than before, but has a shallow toe box as most performance shoes do. Has a narrower heel gauge for less heel slippage and has dynamotion fit heel. New design to wave with composite rubber parallel wave for improved transition (old wave had pebax in shank area) . 22/10 midsole height. Thicker sockliner and increased arch height.
Kaze 4 cross country spike gets upper change with a deeper instep height (more open vamp) in new version and wider forefoot gauge insole
Universe 2 is a new upper very light nice shoe with price reduction down to $120 only 3.8 oz!
Everything else in their line gets color updates as is typical with mizuno every 6 month cycle.
Creation 9 price increase to $130 new upper only, midsole/wave/outsole is same as C8. Dynamtion split heel design, attached tongue as in nirvana. Outsole modified with new X10 for increased durability. New thicker sockliner, added height to arch of sockliner to better fit this category.
nirvana 5 is a spring 09 shoe and I have seen the early mockups of it. Gonna be some great changes but I cant say much about it yet. I met their product development head recently (he flew into Abingdon to meet me) and he showed me some 09 products to get my take on them. They continue to have some good stuff coming and I think N5 will be best Nirvana yet and will place it more head to head with the Kayano
my question - I ran in wave creations for a number of years, but had problems with the 8’s
(I believe others did also) - has this issue been resolved in the 9?
some changes to the wave plate may help ease some of the issues that were present with the 8 I think they were aware of some issues. The dynamotion fit heel is also a big improvement. Saw spring 09s new creation 10 the other day and WOW it looks good, but is quite a ways off
Ronin is new this spring, nice shoe. Here was my report on it last fall:
Wave Ronin (Ronin is “mercenary” ) new shoe January 5, msrp $90 replaces Idaten is only 6.4 oz G3 outsole, tapered form fitting shoe neutral wave plate. Composite wave plate with lightweight resin to increase shock absorption. Dynamotion heel fit

The 9 has the same midsole/outsole as the 8 but has a new upper. Our sales of the 8 was weak compared to past models and I don’t think the 9 will be much better. I saw the same prototype of the 10 that Jamie saw (at least I think it’s the same) with the fully open wave plate in the rearfoot and forefoot but was told it won’t be ready for Spring 2009. The 8 got pretty heavy especially in the heel and putting even more wave in the midsole is gonna be tough to do without making it even more of a porker. I do agree with Jamie that the next generation of the Nirvana looks like the best one yet.
I always had good luck with Mizunos but the last few years I have switched to running on my forefeet and sticking to grass or sand as a running surface so any light weight trainer has worked. I’m starting to get back to some faster interval training which I would like to do on a harder surface, what Mizuno shoe would give me good forefoot cushioning without a tall clunky heel?
I love running off pavement, injuries are nill but miss quality speed work.
Jamie,
slightly ot, but…
Do you know if it is possible to get the Mizuno Wave Harrier in the US (without mail ordering it from a shop in England) ? I emailed MizunoUSA and their response was that was a Euro only model. I need something with a wide toebox, lightweight, and excellent traction. There are a lot of nice looking new trail shoe options out there now, but it is hard to find something with all 3 (the Ascend is heavier and too much shoe for what I’m looking for). Wide toebox, narrow heel. My toes do not like being squeezed together anymore.
Just thought I’d ask, cuz you seem to know a lot about these things.
thanks

In Mizuno’s line your best bets are probably going to be the Rider or Precision in the neutral category and the Elixir in the stability category. The Precision and Elixir are lightweight trainers and like most Mizunos are not the softest shoes out there. If a soft durometer midsole is important to you you’d probably be better off looking at Asics, Nike or Saucony.
yes there will be very limited production of it from what I understand. It may be what is considered a “futures only” shoe, meaning that they wont produce more than what is originally ordered to fill orders placed for it during seasonal booking which is about 6 months before they become available. They wont plan to “stock” much of them at Mizuno, I may be wrong on this but from what I recall that is the case
