Hi there,
This is US Pro and certified USAT Coach Ruthy Vesler. I would recommend doing 1 arm swimming. Try both with your non-swimming arm to the side and with your non-swimming arm out in front for balance. Breathe towards your non-swimming arm. This will ensure that you are getting enough rotation to get a breath. If you are not getting enough side rotation, you either won’t be able to get a breathe or you will be forced to lift your head completely out of the water which will mess up your balance completely. Also, make sure that you can see your fingers out in front of you to make sure that you are getting enough reach.
