What's a good swim time?

Just got out of the pool, .5 mile swim and 5 mile run. My swim time was 16.30 for 1000m. But hell, I got nothing to compare this too.

For a training pace, what is a good 1000m and 2000m time in the pool?

Thanks

Half a mile is 800 meters or so…

Oh crap, been swimming 1000m this whole time thinking it was half a mile. Engilish Major you know. Guess I’ll swim 800m and get me time.

I hope your parents are not paying your way thru college…I think they be wasting the money…Is that english major or ebonics major???

Kids with floaties can swim faster than that!

If you take the 1k TT you did and divide the time by 10 you get your 100 swim pace. 16:30 = 1:39m time or around 1:30-1:32 yard pace so its better than average for sure. Nice swim. I usually use a 1k or 2k TT as the measuring stick.

Its called typing on the sly here at working while boss roams the halls…heh. Basically, on eye on the hall, one eye on the computer.

16:30 for 1000 M = 13:24 for 800 M

Math is your friend.

Define good???

Master’s Nationals?? 1000 meters – 11 minutes

Age Group Nationals?? 1000 meters – 10 minutes

Being top 5% out of the water at a major tri race – 12.5 minutes

Top 5% at an average tri – 14 min.

Top 50% at an average tri – 17.5 min.

Thanks Mike, although I doubt I was going that face. Might have miscounted my laps, and easy mistake to make.

Love to see someone invent a useful lap counter.

Here’s one…http://www.poolandspa.com/catalog/product841676.cfm
Not sure if it’s useful enough or not, but there are several differnet makes and models like this one. If that fails an under water watch worls well. I just use my HR monitor watch.

Well, dont cheat on the lap count like you are at work!!!

Any swim where I didn’t drown is a good time to me.

Holy cow! Every post TNL has made had grammatical errors. I thought maybe he was English or something but now I’m lost. If you’re an English major you need to reconsider. As far as your swim times go you’re a touch faster than I am but keep in mind swim speed means the least compared to biking / running.
