What's a fair price to sell a 945 to a friend

Mine’s been sitting around for a while unused.

I still have my 920 as a spare.

i sold my 945 to my wife. we agreed on a price of $0

How good is the friend?

I am about to throw mine out on eBay and hope to get around $250. A good friend price is probably in the $200 - $225 range.

Unless you need the money. Pay it forward with request they do the same when they move on. Just my .02

Yes, good friend and training partner. I was thinking of $150. I think $250 is a fair Ebay price

That’s a good idea too.

Well, I gave my 945 LTE to my GF so I’m covered there…for a while.

shrewd move.

Give it to him.

Let your friend name the price. If you really need the money, sell it online. If you really need the friend, let them name a price they think is fair and accept it no matter what.

In my opinion this is the worst possible option. It puts all the pressure on your friend to name a “fair” price. To me that puts the expectation on your friend to pay the market price which is not the friends and family discount.

A quick search of Ebay recently sold shows anywhere from $235 - $300 depending on condition an accessories.

It is up to you how much the F&F discount is for this particular person. Since you asked I assume they aren’t your best friend.

20-30% off is a good friend discount. I personally this this a good middle ground. You get money in your pocket and your friend gets the Garmin at a price they couldn’t get on the open market.

I don’t need the money, he’s a good friend.

In any case, when selling to friends, I generally go way below market value. I guess if it was a car or something really big, I would probably go closer to market value, but for a watch? I guess I was assuming your friend has a good idea of what the watch is worth new or used, and would be able to adjudicate their own pricing. Also I would consider their economic situation too. Starving college kid just getting into the sport gets a steep discount.

I’d give it to him. I’m sure he will protest so tell him to buy the beers next time you two are out.

A libertarian would say a fair price is whatever the market will bear. He’s not really your friend, he’s just an ally in case society falls apart.
Libertarians are also idiots though…

$100
He’s a good friend, you don’t need money, but $100 is still something.
People above saying -$25 or 20% discount…feels not that friendly (imo)

I agree. 20% discount is like you’re trying to indicate that he’s your friend, but not THAT good of a friend. Just feels weird.

100-150 and you really are doing him a solid. While he doesn’t have to feel “indebted” to you

The challenge is if you’ve charged $100 or even $50, what happens if/when the barometer or optical HR craps out in 2 weeks, 6 months, 12 months? On the other hand then ‘lend it to him’ on the basis that if he ever stops using it/replaces then he returns to you.

So then there’s nothing in that which could lead to friendship friction that is way more important than a few dollars. You won’t be pissed if he replaces it in 3 months, and sells it on ebay for $100 more than you charged him, he’s not pissed if you sell it to him in good faith but he ends up with a broken watch and a $400 bill to fix.

I’ve done this twice and the friend, and the friend of the friend, have gotten more into running because of it. That’s worth it to me.
