What would you do

I am in heading to CdA in the morning. Saturday night I started to feel a bit stuffy and my throat started to hurt. I did have a decent short brick that morning (2.5 hours/20min). Yesterday I was hammered. I spent the last 24 hours going from hot to cold laying on the couch. I don’t have a temp. I am guessing allergies. I missed a couple workouts last week due to being just too damn tired.

I have a short run and swim today, I am starting to feel a little better so should I bag the training today and tomorrow is travel day to CDA. My only fear is that my body starting to detrain.

Any opinions?

You cannot gain or lose fitness during a 3 week taper.
Bag the workout and I will see you in CDA
Mike

That is certainly the direction I am heading and I hope you are right.

Thanks for the input

Agreed 100%. Bag the workout. Let your body fight off whatever it is. You won’t detrain that fast, all the training is there. Good luck!!!

My allergies are on red alert too. Take some Airborne every day so that you don’t get sick for real, and rest up. Sometimes these things are a blessing in disguise. I’ve seen a lot of people race great the week after having things that sidelined them to more rest than they planned. Stay positive and keep focused on how much fun the race will be! Staying positive is WAY more important than most people realize!!!

Can’t wait to meet you! I leave at 6 am tomorrow. See you in Idaho!

Jodi

Get to that start line healthy! You’ve done the work! If anything, maybe a very easy spin or run today, just to be moving (sometimes it seems to flush out some toxins or something).

Take your vitamins; hydrate and keep up the electrolytes. I also start slamming those listerine strips if I am feeling a scratchy throat.

Wondered why I didn’t see you running with the Missus at TL yesterday.

You two go have a great time! Will be watching on the good ol’ W-W-W.

I agree 100% with Jodi. If you are getting sick 6 - 7 days out from a big race, the first thing to do is relax. Next do NOTHING except rest. Stay well hydrated at all times. Get the maximum sleep you can every night. Know that ALL the training is done. Actually it was done about two weeks ago or should have been. There is nothing that you can do now that will improve your performance, but there is lots you can do to wreck it!

I experienced this years ago when after being flat on my back for exactly a week, with a garden vareity head-cold, I came back and had what was at the time one of my very best race performances. It was a valubale real-life lesson for me in the importance of rest, tapering and race preparation.

Thanks for the well wishes kids. I will remain flat on my back today. Mrs. ATX has a Doc appt with our GP so I am going to sneak in and see if he can hook me up with something.

See ya’ll there!

I’d do a really easy spin on the trainer and drink my liquids. I actually feel better when I do a little of something.

Emergen-C/Airborne, Zicam, and that green juice from Naked (Green Machine - it’s at Whole Foods). Or, go over to Daily Juice and get something that will knock the sh!t out of you. Jonnyo liked the Depth Charge when he was here. Ok, ‘liked’ isn’t the right word, but he went back multiple times b/c it made him feel better. They recommend the ‘fire hydrant,’ too when people are sick… basically, all the gross ones.

Oh, and go sit in the sun for 15 min. That makes me feel better.

I think it was the 42 lb hamburger we ate at the crits.

I am all over the Emergen-C right now I will head down to Daily Juice here in a bit.

No way… that was a top-notch burger. Maybe it was your beer!

Hydration is critical too. I know the Texan in you will struggle with the idea, but you might want to look at some herbal teas to flush out toxins.

zicam and airborne —hit it hard
.

I am guessing Lone Star Beer is not what you are recommending? Any suggestion what type of tea?

Just rest. I bet you will have your best race on Sunday.

Good luck!
