Looking to buy my first tri bike. I’m buying used so I don’t have unlimited options. Looking at a 2009 Felt B2 with SRAM Red, or a 2011 Cannondale Slice 4 with SRAM Rival. What would you choose ? Both are in excellent condition with virtually no problems. Priced within $200 of each other. Please submit feedback.
they both have pretty different geometries. The Slice is slighly taller and shorter and the Felt from that year is lower and longer. Have you sat on either before? I have a Felt since I have a longer torso and it allows me to get a little lower because of its longer reach. Both bikes are great bikes so it really should come down to fit. Also, if both are close to stock they should be very adjustable.
Thanks for the feedback Andy. I have a shorter torso so it sounds like the slice is a better choice. I would loved a speed concept and have ridden one and it felt great but they are a little out of my price range
I’ll second the recommendation for the Cannondale Slice. I also have longer legs and a shorter torso. The Felts and especially the Cervelo tri bikes don’t fit me. Too much top tube. When I tried to size down to shorten the cockpit, I ran out of seatpost.
I can’t speak to the Felt but it sounds like we have similar body proportions (I have no torso ;)) and I have loved my Slice 5. It is light, stiff and the fit worked for me. I wrote a full review on it, maybe you will find it helpful:
If the speed concept was comfortable the slice has a similar geometry so it should work. It is a nice bike and is adjustable as well. Good luck!
Thank you everybody for your feedback. And now that confirms that the Cannondale Slice is a great choice for me. Thanks
I’m curious what your budget is. I’ve seen new slices in shops for under 2k. Plus, one of the tri stores advertises on here for a while package with shoes, wetsuit, helmet and slice for 2k. Worth looking at New in my opinion.
I’m looking at getting a 2011 slice 4 in outstanding condition, with brand new never been used Fulcrum 7’s and tires, and a set of Zipp 404 with tires and cassette for $1700. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. What do you all think?
that is a pretty good deal since it includes the Zipps. That would be a nice race machine.
Agreed, since it includes the wheels. Check bike and zipps carefully.
