Sub 15 ?
I’m a little more familiar with ITU pros than the long course guys, but several on that list are folks I’ve heard of. I assume Cork is cooler than Kona, so you can’t write of Marino. And McMahon has gone sub-8, so he isn’t chopped liver. Not as sure about strengths with Del Corral and Amorelli,but I’ve at least seen them places.
I’d pick Ali to win, but it isn’t a total list of nobodies.

AB doesn’t like not winning but I’m struggling to understand how you can train for an IM and ITU at the same time. I suspect he will be near the front coming out of T2 then see where the chips fall during the run. What does he has to do to get his ticket for Kona? If he does well at Leeds will he treat this as a long training day and focus on the tokyo test event? Just seen that it 16/19 Aug so I can’t see an someone preparing for both? Unless the Kona training starts after Aug?

Him, Currie and Tim O’Donnell passed me in Ironman Cairns last year, Gomez was little more than a 1m off Currie’s wheel. I mentioned it to a few others who had seen the same thing. One of the pros got pinged I believe? Wasn’t Gomez. Then later in the year same thing when I was in South Africa, I didn’t witness it this time, but after I raced I watched an interview with Brownlee complaining of the other pros drafting off him and Jan and not “doing any work”. They then showed beautiful drone footage of 5 pros stacked up behind one another. For the life of me I cannot find the same footage, I kinda think Ironman destroyed the footage as it wasn’t a good look! It wasn’t just Gomez though.
Yeah the 70.3 in South Africa Javier was inside 5 metres most of the ride.

I agree with this. Looking at the start list:
Marino Vanhoenacker: 17 IM wins. 7:45 was the world record at the time.
Brent McMahon: 4 IM wins. 5 sub 8 hours
Victor Del Corral: Multiple IM wins. has gone sub 8 hours. Has run a legit 2:37:xx IM marathon.
Ali has never done an IM. And, when was the last time he ran a marathon?

I’m offensive and this remark is dyslexic to me.
I think the result is meaningless vs the execution of the race. I think he just needs to LSD (look, search, discover) and then figure it out post race. Of course he wants to win, and maybe he does. And I certainly think he stays in IM long enough to give Kona a good fair shot- he’s got nothing else to do really, so I think he’s going to go after Kona regardless if he’s going to be good in the heat or not. But I think he just needs to be able to race smart so that it gives him a good idea of what IM racing is all about. Bolting out of T2 with his hair on fire shooting for sub 2:30 marathon only to fade SUPER hard doesn’t give athletes a lot of fun feelings even with a win.

haha yeah I was kinda being facetious, it was such great footage and they weren’t 7, 8m, they were like 2m. It was on the South African news when I was over there, spent ages trying to find a clip on the interweb but no luck… perfect for Slowtwitch!
Forgetting Kona/IM for a second I do hope we get another duel for 70.3 WC half in Nice. That is a course with real history. I would be great to see AB, Jan and Gomez turn up fit, prepared and injury free.

General reply - I think he will do well in Leeds and then not even start the IM.
If he does start, he should win and/or have a solid race until the back half. I think he’d see that as a success if he’s strong then fades so just knows he needs the IM specific work.
Brent M. is doing boulder so I doubt he races unless he has a mechanical there.
I am not sure AB will race Cork if he does well in Leeds… for me it is a nonsense, considering he is trying to give Tokyo a try… moreover the olympic test event is just there…and we are not in the age of Mark Allen. It is not possible to success in ITU and Kona at the same time.
Oh, I just saw again posts against Gomez… does anybody remember he is multichampion…70.3,itu,xterra??? Just focus on your guys getting injured and we are all happy
