What was the water temp at IM Florida last year?

Anyone know?

I believe they said it was 77, it was a wetsuit swim.

The water near the beach seemed warmer but there were several colder spots out on the course

I can’t remember exactly, but I think it was about 73-75.

Cold front moved through day before the race. Readings were 76 degrees. It was actually cooler in the shallow water close to shore. It got pretty warm in deeper water.

77.999. No, it was warm. But the air temp at race time was a brisk 45F. So the water felt good and was smooth as glass.

Thats a good question as it’s been VERY HOT this summer in the south. What is water temp now as compared to this time last year??

Current water temperature at PCB is 89F according to the National Weather Service. Which doesn’t really mean anything this far out of race day. Water temperature is still typically low 80s until the middle of October in these parts. After that, it all depends on when the late tropical storms and early cold fronts that cool the water off start moving through the area.

There have been times since I started paying attention that you’ve only gotten legitimate wetsuit temperatures for the first time about five days beforethe race, other years you get a couple of weeks before the race when the water is in the high 70s.

Not sure about the water temps…but there seems to be a lot of shark activity this season!!!

duck for cover.

;o)

I’ve read that sharks like duck.

But the air temp at race time was a brisk 45F.

Holy moly…really?? Shite, have to rethink the packing strategy in that case!

North Florida does have real seasons. They’re just kind of subtle compared to the Midwest. 45F is cooler than what we usually get in early November (more like early December), but low to mid 50s for an overnight low isn’t too weird along the coast.

Cool…literally… Thanks for the heads up. Would have made for an expensive shopping spree for some warm clothes if I continued to think “hey, it’s Florida, it doesn’t get cold there!”

The water was warm enough that we stood in it to warm our feet after the walk through the cold sand and morning air.

I started the bike with my standard tri clothes, shorts and sleeveless shirt. It was chilly at first but as soon as the sun was on you it warmed you right up.

HotBeansNButter - I remember the sand was so cold that it hurt my feet standing in it. Luckily I had some sandles to stand on before the start.
