What to upgrade on a P2?

What, if anything, would you upgrade on a stock 2010 Cervelo P2 Ultegra (and in what order)?
Aerobars are Shimano Missile Pro and seat is Cobb.

I know the obvious ST answer is wheels - but aside from that, anything else ‘necessary?’
Anything swap outs going to help improve performance/ride quality? (Other than more riding!)

frame, then wheels
.

You would upgrade the frame? How’s that?
My question is around what to upgrade (if anything) ON the bike…not swap it out

Edit: sense of humor, frame, then wheels:)
.

Simkins front brake.

traditional road bike advice goes with things that spin get upgraded first. but a tri bike needs aero upgrades, before weight. thems are the rules

Wow - I feel like a ST snob.
Sorry I didn’t catch that!

Can I use the excuse that it’s late?!?!

hide any flat kit in a bento box (darkspeedworks) behind the stem or use a very tiny saddle bag (pedro micro).
race with only one bottle between your arms, zip tied cage.
front: 808 fc cc + bontrager rxl pro 23mm tire OR conti supersonic blackchili 20mm + latex tube
rear: 808 fc cc + wheel cover OR some sort of disc combo + bontrager rxl pro 23mm tire
p4 fork + latex tube
tula aerobars or vision alu basebar + your choice of extensions
center pull aero brake

some ideas:
aero chainring - cheap, small benefit
the new cervelo fork - expensive, medium benefit
centerpull brake/cable cleanup - cheap, tricky to set up well
wheels - expensive, big benefit
tires/tubes - cheap, big benefit
disc cover - cheap, big benefit
torpedo bottle mount - cheap, big benefit
aerobars - yours are not bad, but a ventus would be better =)

What would the best aero bottle be for a P2? Any bottle in a torpedo mound or something aero on the downtube? I have a X-wing at the moment but I understand this is is a bit of an air brake.

Another q, where does the computer go when you have a torpedo mount? I need to have it up front so I don’t have to keep looking down to the stem for power/cadence etc.

Here were my upgrades/ changes in order…

  1. Went with an Ultegra 53/39 crank. I don’t like compacts and really don’t like FSA. Just personal preference.
  2. Wheels, Williams System 85
  3. Bontrager XXX Lite stem

None of these products are top tier of their kind, but they are what I like and I spent little money making the changes.

Slam the cockpit.
Get used to the lower position.

I read somewhere here that a 2cm difference in head position can make a 200g difference in drag.

Your legs!

"aerobars - yours are not bad, but a ventus would be better =) "

Ventus are rather pricey. Is there an estimate on how much time they would save vs stock vision bars?

$999 is approaching half the price of the bike :frowning:

Seriously! I hear so much about upgrading to Ventus bars etc, and so little data. If this were not ST where everything is “all about the data” I would think people are just doing it to look stylish.

Thanks for posting this mansfield - I have the exact model as well.

twomarks

But I’m already faster than you…

It’s not sexy, but is your position as good as it can be? Depending on which guru you listen to your body is ~ 80% of the battle. Riding sitting up like an air dam with $15K worth of carbon goodies is like standing in a bucket attempting to lift yourself up!

In simple terms. ‘Upgrading’ your position, if it’s not good, is very cheap and way faster!

"In simple terms. ‘Upgrading’ your position, if it’s not good, is very cheap and way faster! "

True. But not as fast as the guy who upgrades his position AND his bike. It is possible to do both you know.

(Now, where is that double facepalm graphic?)
