I currently own a 2016 Sl6 rim brake S-works Tarmac, specs as follows:
Sl6 frame rimbrake
Full Ultegra Di2 Components
Sworks Crankset with Quarq PM
Specialized Aerofly 2 handlebars
Roval CLX 50 wheels
I also own a 2018 Specialized Allez Sprint, specs as follows:
Allez Sprint frame rimbrake
Full mechanical Sram Red components, quarq PM on crankset
Zipp sl70 aero handlebars
Zipp 808s
I want to sell one of these to have some funds to work on some other projects, but I don’t know which one I want to sell. They both fit me very well and I love riding them both. The wheels could be flipped, meaning I sell the Tarmac w 808’s or sell Sprint with the Rovals as well. I do think based on the market that the Allez Sprint would sell for more money but that is not a deciding factor. Depending on what wheels are on what, the weights of the bike are about the same.
Basically, my question is, which one would you sell, or which one would you keep?
For all that is holy, please keep the Allez! Tarmacs come and go and there is nothing unique about an SL6. The Allez is as much of a one-of-a-kind art piece as it is a phenomenal expression of aluminum excellence. It will remain timeless and sought after.
It’s more work, but I’d put di2 and the roval wheels on the allez and sell the tarmac with the zipp wheels. The allez sprint is a sweet frame, but also the shifting of di2 is so good (plus I don’t like doubletap lol).
Allez Sprint? In the current market I bet each bike would sell for about the same!
What’s really crazy is that I bought these bikes 2 and 3 years ago used and I will likely sell them for the same as I paid!
The market must be a lot tighter in the US then in Canada as I just bought a medium 2017 Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 Disc with Ultergra Di2 in showroom condition for about half of the original value at about or 1/3rd the price of the new model, the seller also threw in a new $200 carbon stem and 2 new conti tubeless tires. Bike had been listed on FB marketplace for 2 weeks. Great bike.
I like allez. The SL6 doesn’t do anything for me aesthetics wise. I kinda agree with the other poster regarding swapping di2 to the allez and selling the tarmac. I’d keep the rovals too.
That’s just me though. Which one do you like more appearance wise?
Which one “rides” better?
I was deciding between these two bikes (disc versions) 2 years ago and went with the Allez Sprint because it is cool and like my old Allez from 2002. Ended up selling it and now have the SL6. It may not be as “cool†but it is more comfortable and smooth for me, plus I like having a threaded BB, 27.2 post and standard headset (Allez HS is apparently allez AND size specific).
Assuming both feel equally comfortable on the frames, I’d suggest mixing and matching to get the ideal bike that puts a smile on your face.
I have no idea how the Allez Sprint feels, but It’s definitely a cool looking bike. I’d go with the sprint, Di2, Aerofly 2 handlebars, which ever crank is in better shape, what ever wheels suit best.
I’m confused. Why do you have both bikes in the first place if they do pretty much the same job and you can’t decide between them. What are the differences in use/enjoyment, for you?
Which bike has the better paint job? While I love 808s on a pure racer they aren’t daily drivers, at least where I live, and they certainly aren’t increasing value sitting in a garage. I would float the idea of selling the 808s separately and then putting some cheap old training wheels on either of the other two bikes and selling one of them that way. You then keep the Roval wheels on the bike you keep.
I suspect the Allez sprint is easier to sell under this scenario but the S-works badge does hold a unique allure in some circles. When I was in a similar position I sold my Allez equivalent because it was easier to sell and I kept getting people trying to low ball offer the other bike due to ‘uncertainty about an old carbon frame.’ I had both bikes listed locally with the plan to keep which ever one didn’t sell first. I don’t regret the decision but I am also sure I would not have regretted keeping the alloy frame had I been able to get a good offer on the (slightly) older carbon bike.
