What reflective vest/jacket do you LOVE for night running?

Looking for my wife since she runs early am. Something she can wear over her winter clothing that wont get sweaty so she wear it every day. Thanks

Apologies for not answering your question but …

I have just got myself a set of Nathan light spurs for night running - they are very eye catching (especially on strobe) and as I picked the green ones, they are completely unlike anything else drivers might typically choose ignore.

Some of my run route has parts where the street lighting is very poor and I can see the lights bouncing off walls and parked cars even though they are pointing backwards.

I can’t tell when they are on my trainers and they haven’t moved whilst running. I do remove them after every run though to try and stop the spring from getting weak.

Maybe something for her to try ?

I have tried a bunch of stuff and in the end, like the other response, I went with lighting. I got a really solid headlamp, that has a flashing red tail light as well. Not only do cars see me better than they ever have with reflective gear on, but I get to see what I am running on. There are a few threads on ST here that cover the best options (I went Black Diamond Sprinter).

I grabbed this on a whim while in Ikea last month. It is a very lightweight vest, very reflective and it packs into own chest pocket. It’s so unobtrusive that I wear it in low light conditions in addition to the early am runs.

i go with the Ragnar Relay standard, which is to use a reflective belt or reflective vest, such as: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015QOYXCU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Along with a blinky red LED on the back and headlamp in front.

You can usually find these things for relatively cheap at TJ Maxx or Marshal’s

also wear a headlight–black diamond that also has a red blinker on it.

Hi-Vis/Reflective strap with choice of solid or flashing lights.

My wife’s really wanting one of these for Christmas.

Reflective alone is only good when there are bright lights to illuminate it. At Dusk and Dawn, reflective may not cut it.
Hi-Vis Yellow (specifically) is the easiest to be seen in. Some pinks also do well. Greens and blues do not tend to be as visible.

I have the men’s version of this and it definitely makes you be seen, but WARM. It doesn’t breathe particularly well in my experience but this might be fine since you are looking for something over winter clothing.

I’m training for marathon now - running 70+ miles per week, some of it under 7min/mile. At least 45 of those miles happen in complete darkness of 4AM-6:30AM, so having good running visibility is paramount for me, and I like what I’ve got and would recommend it.

I would recommend skipping the reflective vest and getting the REFLECTIVE STRAP-VEST like this one:

The reason is that you can wear that reflective strap over anything, use it in all seasons including summer, and it a LOT more visible than any vest that is reflectors printed onto it. It gives you full 360 deg visibility - I’ve seen someone else wearing it in the morning and it’s really, really good.

She can then wear literally any vest or jacket she wants under it, without worrying about reflectivity (which costs a LOT extra for jackets/vests.)

**I would also highly recommend getting her a bright rear blinkie for rear-approaching cars. **

Skip any ones powered by puny CR2032 batteries. Bike blinkies like the Planet Bike Superflash or equivalent 1-2watt brightness are awesome. Clips to hat or the belt of that reflector strap set above. I consider this as important for safety as the vest. Amazon’s got a ton of excellent choices <$25.

This works for me.

At 2 for $9 you should plaster yourself in these things: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BQSI1S2

And, at $20 and rechargeable, these are pretty sweet, too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N1SM2NQ

Those work fine at night, but the light is pretty much useless at dusk. I avoid recommending these strap-type bands for that reason, although they’re definitely way better than none.

The bike blinkies that are AA or AAA powered are much more powerful and the best for rear-approach cars.

I have one of these and one for our dog.

The are visible for over a mile (yes, the maker of them tested that). Honestly, sometimes I am more worried about causing an accident by people rubbernecking when they see us running because they are looking at the bright lights. A little pricey compared to some of the other options but well worth it.

Another vote for noxgear. Bright and don’t even feel it. It’s pricey but worth it.

Here you go, resurrected from my deleted items and uploaded to YouTube – (moving) pictures speak a thousand words etc … lol

I have the same vest, and the same headlamp. The vest even has a small pocket where you can stash a key or few dollars.

I have to wonder when I see people wearing these who think they are really reflective. No they really aren’t to those of us driving. You might think you are but I along with many others (especially as we’ve gotten older over the yrs our eyes don’t react was well) don’t really see them. Too small an area in the dark.

There are new products coming out which provide much better full chest & back area & really are seen so much better.
Sugoi Zap vest & Jackets. Proviz products among others.

Saw a woman the other night wearing something that was really noticeable 1000 fold more next to her friend with the Nathan strap.

Seriously, if you can’t see an Amphipod xinglet while driving, you need to get your eyes checked right now.

I don’t know which Nathan strap that woman was wearing, but it sounds like it wasn’t anything like a xinglet.

The full-area reflectors are neat stuff, but you really shouldn’t be driving if you’re having a hard time seeing a xinglet with car lights on.
