What percentage of Olympic Medalists are from, live or train in, or went to college in the US?

Seems like most of the top athletes either are from, live or train in, or went to college in the US.

What percentage of medals are won by athletes that meet such criteria.

What would the medal count/standings look like if you include those athletes too?

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. Many medalists actually seem to hail from or otherwise are connected to the US in a very significant way.

For example:

-Mo Farah: Gold Medal 10K for Great Britain; has lived in the US for last 5-6 years

-Katinka Housszu: 3 Golds, 1 Silver Medal Swimming for Hungary; College at USC

-Yulia Efimov: 2 Silver Medals Swimming for Russia; Has lived in US for last 6 years (since she was 18)

-Kennedy Gross: Bronze Medal Swimming for Canada; lives in US; College at Indiana

-Brittany McClean: Bronze Medal Swimming for Canada; lives in US; College at U of Georgia

-Joseph Schooling: Gold Medal Swimming for Singapore (Beating Michael Phelps); lives in US; College at U of Texas

-Chantal Van Landeghem - Bronze Medal Swimming for Canada; lives in US; College at U of Georgia

-Brianna Theisen (married Adam Eaton)- Bronze Medal Heptathlon for Canada; lives in US; Went to college at Oregon

-According to the NCAA, 1020 Olympians from 107 countries competing in Rio have gone to or are in college in the US. That doesn’t include others like Farah, who live or train in the US. So yes, I was curious what percentage of medalists are connected to the US and what the medal count/standings would look like.

I’m happy the Olympics are only every four years because it takes that long for some people’s heads to deflate to normal size so they can think properly again.

Since this is indeed, “a thing”, I am surprised, and somewhat dismayed, that Ethiopia could do not better than this guy http://i63.tinypic.com/2m7gf7m.jpgfor their swimming representative. If African countries eventually send triathletes to upcoming games, then they need to send kids to colleges with pools

You’d think it would be a top priority for poor countries around the world to spend billions of dollars on athletic facilities…
