What pace should I run my marathon?

I can’t help but read this to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas.

Do we get an update? Curious how this went!

We could just look in the Results, but I believe we’re owed something more than that

Sorry dudes! I ran it in 4:05, which was a little slower than I’d hoped but I think I learned some lessons about pacing, bonking, and having a good attitude about it all. I’m copying my splits and the official LAM time thing, which tell a story of a confident and perhaps too quick start, a very fun mid-race, and a tough back end where I really started to bonk around 23 miles, but didn’t totally burn out.

Some factors in the bonk: (1) I came out quick, felt really good and maybe didn’t bank energy, (2) I didn’t account for the elevation gain at mile 21, which isn’t that big, but was enough to wear my legs out, and (3) LAM was pretty hot in the ending stretch this year, with temps in the mid-80s at the end, and I probably could’ve used more electrolytes & water.

Overall though I was happy with the outcome. I’m going to run another in October and the goal is simply to improve on my time a bit!

Nice job! It’s so hard to hold yourself back when you’re feeling good and ready to go. My last marathon, I told myself I would pick up the pace at mile 16 if I felt good. At that point, I decided to see how I felt at mile 18 and by then I was definitely not picking up the pace!

Mid-80s is hot. Congratulations!

I saw this comment but I didn’t really appreciate it until mile 22 :stuck_out_tongue:
