Yeah, another tubular thread. The Zipp tire seems kind of bulky and doesn’t really like to roll up flat. What do others do for this, i.e., to get it nice and tight so it’s not a giant pile of rubber behind my saddle? Maybe carry a different tire that lays flatter and is thinner?
Fold it up as tight as you can put a tight sock around it and secure with a toestrap. Has worked for me since 1966.
I know ya’ll will laugh, but I use an S3 Lite Tufo. If I’m changing a tire, I’ve already lost the race and I know a Tufo will get me home without any more flats.

Walk into your local high-end roadie shop and ask the dude how to fold a tubie. There’s a trick to it that I wouldn’t be able to explain very well in print, but it’s pretty simple. Secure it under the rails with a leather toe strap for maximum points.
Many years ago there was a step-by-step article with pictures in Road Bike Action magazine… Maybe we could get Tom to post something similar?
Is the Tufo any less bulky? The key is for it to be able to squish very flat.
Tufo makes a saddle bag large enough to carry a tubular. I just ordered one from Glory cycles. So, I’ll see how well it fits a tubular-clincher, which is a little more bulky.
I have seen guys cut the top off a cheap water bottle and stuff the tire in that.
In use velcro strips on the tire and a 1970s toe clip strap to hold it to the seat. Nice tight package. My sox always stink and I don’t want to waste a good tire

I use the X-Lab Saddle Wing with the velcro straps. TIGHT! You need to practice rolling and strapping the tubulars because it is a penalty to leave a blown tubular (and PowerGel wrappers) on the race course.
You have several options - the Tufo bag (which is actually a Jandd Tire II bag with the Tufo logo and $3 premium), the toe strap which exposes the pre-glued tire to grit and the Nitto square water bottle cage (Euro-Asia Imports is the distributor for your LBS) but this is expensive. I ride tubulars every day and use the Jandd bag. It holds every sort of tubular Vitto, Tufo, Conti (ie Zipp), etc…
The bag also works with the Minoura saddle cage mount that holds two bottles. It is the sweetest setup for those long rides that I used to have time for before opening a tri shop
Tufos fold up much smaller since there is less material (no tube). That is the best place for a Tufo – folded up under a saddle…
The little “Y” bracket that comes with a Profile design aqua-rack is a good tubular carrier. Take off the bottle cages. Take off the vertical pieces the bottle cages stick in to. And then use some screws to attach a pair of X-lab straps to the holes left on the bracket. This is a great way to carry it securely.
