What is Your Hierarchy of Equipment Needs/Wants for Triathlon?

Hello All,

I have discovered that I have a lot of gear to do triathlons. Some needed and some just fun to have.

My garage has old bike stuff, old wetsuits, old shoes, old shirts … yeah I need to clean out the garage.

Wondering what I could do without and what is important to me.

In theory I could race naked and barefoot for swim and run but would still need a bicycle.

I could ride the bike naked too. But I do need a bike.

So …

  1. Bike

  2. For comfort on run and bike - shoes.

  3. For comfort and custom - shorts

  4. And somewhere in the mix that follows my 2XU or similar tights for recovery after a long or hard ride or run.

(well, not too sure about recovery, but I know when I wear them to bed I am not jumping out of the bed in the middle of the night dancing around the room with a leg cramp.)

  1. Sunglasses

  2. Telemetry - SRM, Polar, and so on … not needed but fun to have.

What do you need/want?

Cheers,

Neal

Helmet (can’t race w/o it…stupid to train w/o it).

Go fast gear on the bike (aerobars, disc, deep-Vs)…I’ll take them before the HRM/GPS.

I have also found a bike to be useful…

#1) I would like to upgrade my bike - this is purely out of lust. I love My 05 QR kilo.
#2) wetsuit
#3) Garmin 310xt
#4) Would like some tri model bike shoes. I have some older ones that are very hard to get into. But they came with my bike so I’m not complaining.

Other than that I’m very happy with my gear. Love my Nimbus 11’s & DeSoto Forza tri-shorts, AquaSphere Vista’s are awesome, Love my Giro Advantage 2 helmet, Nike triax c6 HRM works just fine and my Oakley Hijinks are a very sweet carry over from everyday wear to triathlon. I’m a happy camper right now.

This has worked for me:

  1. Buy wife nice tri toys
  2. Upgrade my toys to match/beat hers

All possible solutions are accounted for using this simple formula;)
.

I’m definitely partial to goggles for the swim…

A running bra. I could/would run naked on the bottom, but I can’t deal with the bounceage.

  1. Bike
  2. Shoes (bike and run)
  3. helmet
  4. Wetsuit if swimming in cold water but not always necessary (could rent)
  5. Watch (but doesn’t actually have to be a polar/garmin) some people have actually trained without
  6. Beer and lots of beer because you can’t afford any more good tri gear and goodies.

Gotta’ worry about drag in the water too.

Ew! Well, they’re not that big. LOL!

Hello triarcher and All,

I missed the helmet - taking it for granted I guess.

I have a Giro Advantage II and suspect it is faster than my new LG but I am opting for coolness (of my head) and I like the one hand operation of the LG retainer.

If I had a cool race venue I would go with the Giro Advantage II.

Second on DeSoto Forza tri shirt - but with my Assos bike shorts - and a big second on Aquasphere Vista, only small changes from the Seal model and costs a bit more but much better fit on my head. http://www.aquasphereswim.com/us/products/vista_tnt_red.html
