What is your go-to daily snack food?

Proper nutrition has always been my Achilles heel. I try & take in the proper amount of healthy calories to offset what I burn in my daily training, but sometimes it gets hard to find time to get it all in. Sometimes I have to eat whatever is on hand or easy to grab. Having two small kids, my pantry is filled with plenty of temptations that are not good for me to snack on & I find myself diving into crap snacks more often than not. I try & snack healthy, but grabbing a handful of cookies, m&ms, or goldfish is just easier. I would like to snack a lot better, but I’m not sure what the best thing is for me to grab.

What is your go-to snack food? Do you snack with a purpose or do you see snacking as an indulgence where you can cheat?

Apples. Or if I am actually hungry, I make myself oatmeal.

Handful of Kashi Go Lean and some Almonds.

I take no prisoners. Utz’s salted pretzel sticks. By the hand full.

Oven roasted sea salt almonds

This, handful of almonds…peaches are in season and provide killer water content and fiber. The combination of fruit and nuts is healthy fats, water content for hydration, fiber and easability.

Almond butter and honey on toast.

Cliff white chocolate macadamia bar or a hand full of walnuts.

Fruit make a pretty good sweet snack. An entire box of blackberries is like 80 calories. A cup of watermelon is 50 calories.

For salty snacks, my go to is kale chips. Crispy, salty, nutritious, low calorie… Kale is also stupid easy to grow, so the cost is pretty good too.

If I can’t wait the 20 minutes it takes to make kale chips or I want something with a bit more substance, I’ll eat turkey deli meat or homemade beef jerky.

Snacking guidelines should be easy…in 99% of situations, choose something that was taken off a tree, out of the ground or off a bush & you’re making a good choice.

Personally I’m a HUGE fan of pink lady apples & eat them by the bushel.

A nice syrah or cabarnet …

Chia bars stashed for a black day. Almond butter.

zentriathlon talks about Amrita bars, anybody tried those?

Fruit, usually bananas, ClifBar and Clif Builder’s bars.

Banana, PB and cottage cheese sprinkled with cocoa powder. I could subsist entirely off that.

Can of Mountain Dew and a Snickers bar…and I’m good to go.

Utz Sourdough hard pretzels with peanut butter.

Veggies with hummus
Ricotta & plain Greek yogurt mix with berries and a sprinkle of granola
.

Nutella + anything

absolutely THE best flavor…it’s heaven…just got to watch the soy content! Lara bars are killer too…simple paleo ingredients (if you’re into that kool aid stuff)!!!

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the soy content. Wish they could rectify that. Honestly though, it’s my junk food and probably accounts for less than 5% of my calories in a given week.
