What is the detox time for an avid coffee drinker?

just quite cold turkey monday. no major headaches, just dead tired. i have been quietly jonesin’ for coffee at work all week. i even cut out the caffeine gels and i don’t drink soda. man i could use a pick me up…

Dude, I hear cocaine is The Shit.

i’m starting to question that also…

i figure if i can just get over this week then i will be back to feeling the effects!

2-3 days
.

I can go cold turkey on about anything, but would never ever give up my morning coffee. Pure enjoyment.

2-3 days

But it seems like forever!!

Define “avid”. 2 cups? 5 cups? and are we talking some Peets hard stuff or Folgers Crystals?

Coffee is good for you–cuts down on the prostate cancer risk, colon issues, urinary track issues. Keep drinking it

and one side benefit, speaking as a non coffee drinker here, is that your breath stinks and it discolors your teeth!!

I went cold turkey for about 4 days. The migraine headaches were unbearable so I jumped back on. The only time I am able to detox is when I visit my parents and can do nothing but sleep for a few days. Of course as soon as I go back to work I start up again.

Infinity.

Carl Spackler summed up one big difference between triathletes and cyclists is that triathletes quit coffee or taper off of it … and cyclists can’t get enough.

Well I’m a cyclist and happy to add n=1 data point to Spackler’s body of evidence. The only thing I’ve heard is that some people tapering off of caffeine (cyclists and triathletes) so that they get a bigger bump from it when they use it on race day. I’m curious, what is the logic and why is it different between the two groups?

I used to do this, for my A races, back in the day. Don’t know if it “worked” or not, but I did it.
Then I went to Kona, and was like, “They have Kona coffee in Kona. There is NO F’N WAY I am not drinking Kona coffee while in KONA”
So I gave up giving it up, and have lived happily ever after.
The End.

Two things that are on my do not give up list:

  1. Coffee
  2. Sex
