using actual antifog stuff works pretty well if you apply it properly.
edit: if you aren’t planning ahead and find yourself in need… spit does a good job too. Another thing that works (really well on ski goggles, haven’t tried it on swim goggles yet) is shaving cream. Just put a tiny bit on to still be able to see out the lens (it rinses off the lenses pretty easily though).
My personal experience.
Buy new goggles, never touch the inside. I usually put them on dry and swim. If they get a little foggy in between sets I’ll dunk them in the water, shake em and put them back on. Spit and rubbing the inside of mine always made it worst long term.
A drop of No More Tears shampoo in each lens, then rinse w/water and wear.
Spit, anti fog, baby shampoo, whatever, are all cleaning solutions. Keeping your goggles clean and keeping the lenses from getting damage is the goal.
Someone said “get new goggles” and they’re right. Go invest 10 whole dollars on a new set, DONT TOUCH THEM INSIDE, put them on dry and have a swim. You’ll find that there is far less fogging because they re new and clean. They may still fog depending on the person. I’ve done it all and I just can’t keep goggles from fogging after some time. I used old goggles to train, and a got a brand new set for each race I cared about. Invested 50 bucks a year in goggles to not have fog during a race. Gave up on training.
In the end, get a new set and keep them in a case, or get a case (if you don’t already have one) and clean the old ones. Clean them with baby shampoo and/or alcohol and a Qtip being careful to get any grime out of the corners. It’ll help a ton, but in the end, you may just have to deal with fogging, like me.
Baby shampoo followed by a toothpaste scrub and spit/rinse. Works 100% every single time.
Cat crap.
Best solution ever.
Been using it on my snowboard goggles for years.
It’s a little red container, buy at a board shop or rei.
It’s got this green goo inside, rub on the inside of your goggles, then buff off with a lense cloth.
It doesn’t mess with your eyes or anything like that once it’s on the lense, works for a good long time.
Better than any spit, baby shampoo, goggle company anti-fog, or any snake oil you can find.
Go buy some.
I use dishwashing soap. I prefer the foaming kind but both work. I liberally apply the soap and then rinse with water. I never had a problem and I do this about once a month.
I use the Speedo Anti-Fog solution.
I rinse out my goggles (Swedes) after I swim, dry them, and then spray in the anti-fog. I swish it around to coat the insides completely. Then shake out the excess and let the goggles dry before the next time I swim. I put the goggle on dry, and don’t take them off for the whole workout (if possible).
I think new(er) goggles help. With the Swedes, they are only $4, and the strap breaks easily, so I am usually wearing relatively new goggles.

Like a few people mentioned, spit

thank you all. So spit before on dry one right? I have tried spit in the middle and it seems to not help.
A drop of No More Tears shampoo in each lens, then rinse w/water and wear.

If you have anti-fog goggles, oil and dirt compromise the coating and give water a place to condense. If you wash the inside of goggles with soap and water (scrubbing with your finger), rinse well and then don’t touch them, the anti-fog coating keeps working. If you don’t have anti fog, or it completely stops working, a thin layer of baby shampoo keeps water from condensing as well. It’s a surface tension thing. So I usually just scrub the inside of the goggles with shampoo every week or so. The anti-fog plus the trace amount of left over shampoo keeps them from fogging up too bad.
I agree with the dishwashing soap. The antifog solutions never seem to work well.
x 3 on the baby shampoo, tried everything else, nothing works like the baby shampoo.
The trick swimmers use is to trap a little water inside your goggles. When they fog up, you simply shake your head and remove the fog. Easier and less messy than spit or shampoo.
My understand is that fogging occurs due to small scratches, dirt, imperfections in the surface that allow for water to condense. The anti-fog stuff is gooey and temporarily eliminates those imperfections. Spit only works well (in my experience) if there’s a good amount of mucous involved for the same reason – gooey. So, the cheapest and easiest solution I’ve found is applying baby shampoo to the goggles when they’re completely dry. A tiny amount does the trick and keeps mine clear for a 2K workout. Plus, if it gets wet and the shampoo sloshes into your eyes…no more tears.

I think the new goggle has always worked for me.
Thorough wash with dishwashing soap, then TYR anti-fog.
The dishwashing soap helps with the fog but mostly just clean the lens which also makes a big difference for the visibility.
