Had a great long ride, get home, pick up the bike and hear something clicking around in my front carbon clincher wheel. Sounds like a pebble rolling around. Spokes tight, no visible cracks. I did last come off of a dirt, gravel road. Is it possible a pebble got in there somehow? What is this noise???
It could be the valve stem.
It could be the valve stem.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Do you have electrical tape around your valve stem hole? Or you could just buy the Silca RVC extensions which solve the problem better than electrical tape http://silca.cc/...alve-core-extensions
I don’t think that’s it because this thing is actually rolling around as I move the wheel.
It’s probably a small piece of the bladder that shook loose while you were riding. Most of the times this gets removed from a carbon rim, but there are still small wrinkles on the inside of the rim that can trap a piece of the bladder. Normal riding and the road vibrations will shake it loose.
Take off the tire and rim strip, and you can probably shake it out of one of the spoke holes.
Nothing to worry about
Thank you! You have calmed my worst fears. I will do that.
Is it a Zipp? Might want to check the pretension on the hub. Mine came from the factory loose and was clicking. Quick fix
It’s not. I think the bladder diagnosis makes sense though.
i had a set of chinese carbon clinchers with the same noise and it turned out there was a rather larger sized ball of resin inside. i managed to eventually fish it out through the valve hole
These, too, are chinese carbon clinchers from Far Sports. I will check that out. How have your clinchers held up? It has been a year for mine and I love them, outside of this little hiccup.
It could be anything left inside at the factory. A spoke nipple maybe? Or like someone said a piece of resin.
They have held up fine. Other than getting them trued when I received them I haven’t had any problems.
Don’t think it is a loose nipple from the factory. I have hundreds of miles on these puppies and this noise just started after my last ride.
