What is a good but inexpensive stem?

I need to replace my stem (long story) on my TT bike. I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on such a small and seemingly insignificant part.

Any recommendations on a good stem for the money?

Profile H2O.

I like the Bontrager stems from my local shop.

Something like $35 to $45.

Is that your price range?

Ebay has some good ones too but you have to know what you are looking for.

Performance Bike, Nashbar, and some of the other online retailers have the older style Ritchey WCS stems on super clearance. If you can find one, those are pretty tough to beat.

there are a hundred on ebay. easy to pick up a good deal.
there’s a TTT forgie which had great ratings for stregnth for about $24
Ritchey pro $25
a bunch of Cannondale’s @ $20
take your pick

but i would never call a stem an ‘insignificant part’. i’ve seen one break on a ride. it was significant to that guy.

Good advice. I didn’t realize this until recently but the stem the shop stuck on my C’Dale Slice is an f-ing MTN bike stem. Idiots.

FSA, bontrager, writchey, all pretty cheap and nice.

Performance Forte, 135grams, it like holds the bar in place and really, thats about all I could ask from it.

Performance Bike’s stems are Richey products, if I remember correctly. I know that Pricepoint’s house brand stuff is Richey. Same weight, face plate, bolt pattern, and rise. But a much lower price.

I’ve used Profile H2O, ITT stems, Bontrager, Easton, Pricepoint/ Richey, and some others I can recall. No problems with any of em.

I 've probably bought 10 stems on ebay the last 5 years for my 3 bikes.
Trying different lengths and rises etc until I got what I wanted. Then I sold the ones I didn’t want.

I have an easton ea 70 that I got for about 25.00, it is pretty cool. I also have a ritchey which is what I’m using now, I can’t see it being more than 30-35.00 and I like it fine.

Ritchey stuff is a good value. Don’t think you would be disappointed with the Pro, or one of the lower range stems (comp or just plain Ritchey).
