I am looking for a gift to my Norwegian dad.
He really loves knives. When I am talking about knives I am talking about typical Scandinavian knives (think Helle knives), nothing big or “tactical”.
Does anyone knows about some good quality American brands?
Do you want to get him something that is really good, and happens to be American, or are you looking for something that is more traditionally or American or has some sort of American heritage?
Case, Shrade, and (probably more iconic) Buck are all brands with good quality and American heritage. I think all three brands do folding knives as well as standard hunting or utility knives. The Buck folding Hunter is a pretty iconic model. I carry a small Case pen knife regularly.
I second Chris Reeves knives, made in my home town, there is also Millit Knives made here as well.
A while back I also recommended having one made from a custom knife maker or searching a custom knife maker in your area. I make my own but mostly hunting styles. Some day I’ll sell them but for now just working on being better.
You might be surprised how inexpensive a custom knife can be from a local maker and usually there is a wide variety available from hunting to kitchen styles.
