What is a 6 min Mile?

We need to get the ST conventions correct here.

Which of the following constitutes running 6 minute miles

As long as you hit 6.xx at any point in a given mile you can claim itYou need to cover an entire mile in an elapsed time of 6 minutesYou’re golden if you hit 5.59 (but then someone might claim 5 min miles)…total time for the mile does not matter as long as you’re 5.59 speed at any moment6.xx intantaneous speed and you don’t have to tell anyone it was downhill with a tailwind6.xx intantaneous speed and you don’t have to tell anyone it was downhill with a tailwind nor that it was fuelled by EPO or some extra testosterone6.00 for an entire mile, leaving out that the unit of measure on your GPS was actually kilometersOK, are there any other options that may have been used by the biographer of the former general, now retired from the CIA? I think we need to invite the general and his biographer to the official ST track meet where we’ll also disclose how distances are measured (we’ll get Rapp to come out with his wheel) and we’ll have to publish some industry standards for politicians and celebrities to use for bragging rights. In effect, ST can step up to being the “SI units” of bragging rights. Someone needs to as there clearly are not universal generally accepted conventions on bragging rights.

Then CNN, BBC, CCTV, CNBC, Fox News and Al Jazeera can all agree on something. But we have to step up so they can agree on bragging rights metrics.

I’d only call it a 6:00 mile if I covered an entire mile in the range of 5:55 - 6:04.

Anytime you complete a mile in six minutes no matter what conditions or terrain. If you can string together more then one it is assumed you can go under a six minute mile. If you can string together more then one but cannot break 20 minutes in a 5k it is assumed you do not know how to pace yourself and suck. That about sums it up. At least for me :0)

x2.

Cover a mile in 6 min, you’re there. Not sure what’s so hard about this.

Although I’m very sure this is tongue-in-cheek. So go get 'em, Dev.

X2 doesn’t have to be absolutely exact, but it better be awfully close.

this is slowtwitch not fasttwitch correct? I think you need to run a minimum of 5k @6:00 pace to claim it.

Its actually much easier than that … just assume anything a celebrity or politician says is an obvious lie unless exact specifics are provided … I’m not denoting party affiliation at all … just a generic fact

The answer similar to 6 for a single mile (as long is the distance is measured as a mile, the units don’t matter).

A related question is what constitutes a mile? Four laps around the inside lane in a standard outdoor track is 1600 meters, but a mile is 1609 meters (or 1760 yards).

Six-minute miles (plural) requires the time over the distance equalling an average of 6:00.00 or lower per mile run.

Definitely tongue in cheek…see the Broadwell/Patreus thread
.

Easy everyday running pace for a good runner
.

your average pace for the run is sub 6:00 so distance is important. Sub 6’s for 1 mile, eh. sub 6’s for 13.1, thumbs up to you!

You guys are far to serious. I was hoping someone saying that they say Patreus and Broadwell running at 10 mph pace on treadmills at the base in Afghanstan, but on closer inspections it was 10 kph…

A 6 minute mile is…
Achievable for one mile for me

Being able to cover a mile in 5:59.9999999…

Ms. Broadwell - please stop using your CIA contacts to hack the Slowtwitch account of Mr. Devashish-Paul in order to redefine the 6 minute mile. The Twitcheratti will not tolerate this behavior.

Your elicit affair with one of the most powerful and important leaders of our time is tolerable. Your attempts to prove your running pace while conversing is simply intolerable.

Capisce?

I guess it would be whatever a director of the CIA says it is.

Right now I think my 7 minute miles will kick the crap out of his “6 minute miles”, a few days ago, not so much. I heard
when he was large and in charge he did not like being beaten.

Being able to complete in and around 6 minutes (+/- 5 seconds).

It doesn’t count if you have to preface with “If my life depended on it…”.

AVERAGE speed close to 6:00 min/mile. Few seconds slower or faster is fine. Of course, going a few second faster would give us a ‘faster than 6 min/mile’ brag.

A 6 minute mile is the ability of a slowtwitcher to run on a treadmill at a 6mph pace while occasional (<60 seconds) turning the speed to 10 mph at 0% incline.

Example of two ST’ers at the gym…
ST’er A: “That was a nice recovery session on the dreadmill.”
ST’er B: “What did you end up doing?”
ST’er A: “Just a couple 6 minute miles to get the legs warmed up for my track session tomorrow”
ST’er B: notices the numbers on the treadmill saying 5.01 miles completed in 46 minutes…“nicee dude.”

Speaking of sub 6, one of my goals this year was to cover an entire mile in 6 minutes. I’ve gotten my best kilometer down to 3:45 (which is bang on 6 min pace), but yet to break 6 min for a full mile. Work in progress, but for now I’m a 7 minute miler.

I’m not succumbing to the Broadwell definitions for ST bragging rights (plus I’d have to run sub 4:30 mile to brag on ST anyway).
