Ironically, I think he’d be better off. Even if the “positives” are chemically correct, the lab would never get away with impugning a current pro with such shoddy control over their methods. The authorities can’t sanction him, revoke his license, ban him from future competition, etc. And if he were still competing, they still couldn’t do any of the above based on the uncontrolled results reported. If they tried, they’d drown in the backlash. But since he’s retired, the lab and L’Equipe can (and did) try to slime his reputation, perhaps successfully.
