I am American. If I send someone in Canada a check for $75, made out how I normally write a check, what will happen? Will they get 75CDN or the CDN equivalent of 75USD on the day they cash it or will they not be able to cash it?
I am trying to pay someone 90CDN. Is there a way to do this using my normal checks?

They will get the American equivalent. Since it is coming out of an American account, it is considered US$.
Although if we try to cash a check, the bank teller may refuse since it is spelled cheque
When you send a check to Canada, you get placed on a watch list by the Dept. of Homeland Security and the black helicopters start hovering around your house. Buy American!
I have had to send checks to Canada on occasion. I have always just made out my US check for the USD equivalent. In the amount field I always indicate that the funds are USD to avoid confusion ($75.00/USD) Never seems to be a problem.
Just make sure you specify on the check 75.00 US…or the teller might be all confused…if you decide to send a postal money order just make sure it’s the one valid for international …
If you like to gamble…send cash…works just as good…haven’t had a problem yet…

As long as it is written out to me you should have no problem.
My first suggestion is to get an international money order from the bank or post office and send it in US funds.
Another option is send the amount but write USD ofter it so they (Canuk bank) know it’s in US dollars. the CDN bank will look after the exchange rate at this end.

So, Tie Domi is going to “cheque” someone into the boards??? Are the Flyers going to be known for their “fore-chequeing???”
Do you go to the Dr. for an annual “cheque-up???”
Well up here in Canada, we don’t tend to use the same word to describe a 100 different things.
But to follow your way of thinking:
How do you write a check when as you say, it means to check someone into the boards. A cheque is a piece of paper. To check someone into the boards is an action. Not a thing
A guy gets called into his company’s President’s office.
“Jackson, I’m transferring you to our Toronto location.”
“Thank you sir, but I’d rather not go to Canada. It’s filled with hookers and hockey players.”
