Here are Sodium/Potassium comparisons for these sports drinks.
I am surprised at how “relatively salty” Skratch is.
Also, remarkable how there doesn’t seem to be that many choices any more.
All the flavors were good but I always liked the fresh apple and the peach best- two flavors that I could not find in other brands and all cytomax seemed to settle better in the gut- and tasted ok even when warmed up on a Vegas summer long ride. Early on there was metabol endurance- the rasberry of that mixed with cytomax was great for me on Silverman/long training rides-- with water to wash it down of course,
I have been using Hammer Heed for decades now. It is an excellent product with no added color or garbage. You can also buy Endurolytes(by Hammer) in powder form to increase the sodium content to your desired concentration. So basically making a custom drink.
Allstarhealth.com—my go to for discounted gel and powder drink products—seems to have it available.
Thanks - that’s the one place that has it in stock without jacking up the price. eBay has it for $60+!
It’s good to know that Allstarhealth is reputable.
Is there a particular reason why you still like Cytomax and haven’t switched to another brand? I used to drink nothing but Cytomax back in the college XC days, brings back memories! These days I’m partial to Skratch Lemon & Lime, sometimes supplemented with table sugar and sodium citrate.
this sucks. I’ve used the orange-ish flavored Cytomax off and on over the years. My main concern has been that there isn’t quite enough carbohydrate in a normal dose, and doubling the dose is too sweet. For awhile I was mixing it 2:1 w/ HEED, but most recently I’ve just been adding plain maltodextrin to up the carb content. It changed the Glucose/Fructose ratio, but I never upped the carbs to the point I couldn’t absorb them.
I guess it’s back to GU Roctane for light training, BETA Fuel for more demanding scenarios.
