Does anyone know what font is used for the Ironman logo? Is it something that is widely used or is it something that was specificly designed for them. I understand the M-dot is specific, but I was wondering about the base font. This is for purely academic reasons, I am just curious, I would not want to infringe on their trademark or anything.
I can confirm that-- when I was designing the new site, we used Impact for the base letters and then hand tweaked them to work with the M-Dot, which was hand drawn (otherwise the lettering is off). It took a while to get it just right-- the logo in the top left corner is actually the 18th iteration and is still not perfect, but was close enough.
It lets you upload an image of some text, and then it will break it into letters and try to match it to existing fonts. One of my design friends uses it frequently.
Wow…after all the savaging that ironman.com gets on here both for the design and the various problems people have had with it, you are a brave man for admitting your association with it!
This is fantastic information. Now i can finally get a uniform font on the entire “Did I ever mention I finished a WTC Ironman ™ triathlon?” tattoo I’ve been planning.
I’m thinking 40pt, covering my entire back.
(seriously, thanks for posting that info, IMTravis).
Actually, that’s the reason I’m here-- I want to know what people are saying and the problems they are having, so I can attempt to do something about it.
And, besides, I was responsible for the old ironmanlive.com, too, so whether you like the old site or the new site, you still end up liking something of mine.
