When I first started getting into triathlons, there were three popular forums, ST, BT, and trinewbies. But now, trinewbies is a ghost town…I just went over there and I think there’s two people logged in.
Does anyone know what happened? Was there some big controversy over there, the forum format, or it just died just because.
It was a great resource for me when I started. I don’t know what’s happened to it but I would guess that the regulars would move on and get replaced periodically and they just didn’t get new ones.
In addition beginner triathlete really took off and offers a lot beyond the forum and of course Slowtwitch is a lot more forgiving to newbies than it was a few years ago.
That site was responsible for my getting started in triathlon - I was curious, and it was the first site I stumbled upon back in '99. I still hang out there a bit, but not as much as I once did. I chime in when I’ve got something to contribute.
BT was started after TNO… alot of people migrated over there, as well as to here at ST… I think you’d be surprised at who lurks over there, too, secretly…
If I recall correctly what really crippled TNO is this: Several years ago during the summer the site went down, the owner was on vacation and did not notice so it sat for several days with nothing going on. It seems to me that after that it never was the same again. Some of the lower end forumites discovered BT, others came here and stayed.
I’d like to see it come back, maybe it can in time. It’s really a good forum, but I think the name is off putting to some. Anyway, that’s my two cents.
It’s irrelevant, there are other more active forums, the moderator is a dictator are just some of the reasons. They don’t get lots of new posters and many issues have already been discussed to death by the regulars. There are (were?) some very good triathletes posting there, but if a poster is on the wrong end of something controversial, the regulars cry like whiny biatches and the dictator boots the offending poster without ever explaining what the alleged offense was. Some (many?) people may be turned off by the unofficial rule about all posts being warm fuzzies due the inability of others to handle constructive criticism.
I visit there but don’t care for the format. I don’t like having to open each response. ST is much more user friendly.
Like Slowtwitch that’s a setting you choose.
I think the moderator must have deleted that thread, I couldn’t find it using the search function (or I guess, their search function might not work 100%). Oh well, I’ll take your guys word for it. thanks for all that replied me with the 411.
beginnertriathlete.com It’s a land where we’re all “beautiful and unique snowflakes” and there is an established dogma that doesn’t welcome outside opinion.
Think of it as a "kinder and gentler slowtwitch " where no one knows how to use the search function, ever, and the patented response is ALWAYS “you need a coach and a power meter” or “renn disk and hed 3 is the only wheel combo that makes sense for the money.”
Actually I didn’t know that was your sig, but you can at least relate to how I think then. I use that phrase often to describe the Oprahization of society.
I still post there and usually stop in on a regular basis to see what’s going on. It’s funny but this tread probably has more activity discussing what happened to trinewbies than that forum has seen all day. Maybe even all week.
I have logged on there for years, even when there were just a few posts a day. The site gradually increased in activity and became very popular but is dying a slow, agonizing death. It definitely needs an infusion of new members.
