Not exactly. “Ober” as a particle means “upper”, as in “Oberammergau,” “Obersachsen”, “Oberoesterreich,” etc. As a word, it means “waiter”, which is really just short for “Oberkellner”.

ja, ich weisse. but it’s not swedish like the oberbiker ad for cervelo which is what the original post was referring to.

Herr Ober, zwa moss bitte!

You are all wrong–it is a way of expressing odds on sporting events, e.g. what is the uber/ober on the Dolphins v Jets?

I assumed “Oberbiker” was a cycling version of Nietsche’s “Uebermensch” or “supra-man.” But, I think maybe I’ve gone too far with this already.

ja vielleicht
somehow I don’t think so…

Hva betyr “vielleicht”? Det er norsk eller tysk?

funny with a bit of german you can understand what I think is swedish…
det er norks eller tysk = is it norwegian or german??

Hva betyr: no idea though

I’ve heard that German carries pretty well to Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish.

wow. got one right!

of course then there is whatever they talk in Finland that looks like nothing else…

Ha ha ha, I wish I knew that when we studied German in school. You’re right that some of the words are easy to translate between the languages. Their weird grammar rules makes it really hard to understand and talk though.

Also I rather speak English to Danish and Norwegian people since trying to understand each other in our native languages just makes for a lot of misunderstandings.

Only words over three syllables, not the grammatical rules.

Ok, maybe that’s why I didn’t do too well then

I’m more confused than I use to be: Do you by that mean to say that Über, or was it Öber or perhaps Øber or Æber or Åber is a swedish word?

Bjorn, Swedes and Danes can speak english as much as they want, even though I prefer talking scandinavian. It is when the finish starts to speak finglish I pass out. Hello Finland!

Mr A - care to give us an insight into your plans for next year?

Apart from tearing the legs off everyone in the cycle leg of triathlons, of course! That much is obvious.

Mr A - care to give us an insight into your plans for next year?

Is that really HIM?

Yes, I believe it is the man we call the ONE, the overwhelming, the inimitable, Bjorn the unstoppable.

He lurks here a fair bit, and posts von zeit zu zeit.

Jeg kan talle ligt Danske! Skal vi snakke ligt danske? Jeg kan ligt danske. Skol. I love the Danes.

yeah. we just didn’t bother with … and / on the u and o’s
