Been thinking about doing the masters program here, but the prices seem awfully steep. It’s $70/month or $360/season (September-March). There are four practices a week. I already have access to the pool here at the university, so this price is just for the masters component.
If you have a masters membership card we pay a drop in pool fee of $5.
You can also save some $ by paying the winter or summer session in full.
Shaker Masters Swimming Ohio.
at the two programs (carlsbad and encinitas) close to me here in San Diego, the prices range from $40 to $60/month. Both programs run 11 practices per week.
in Dallas, $70/month. about 7 pools around town to choose from and swim times vary between morning, lunch, and evening depending on which pool and time of the year.
It costs $340 Canadian for a full season here, from early September
until late in April. The local club runs 9 workouts per week, with 3
each: early morning, mid-day, late evening. Most people only do 2 or 3
per week. Other factors affect the cost too, like how many lanes do
they book or how many people do they schedule into a lane of what size.
Also how many coaches and what quality of coaching are they paying
for. Another question would be, are there any extras, like club suits,
trips to competitions, etc.
I pay $100 a year, includes USMS membership. During the summer we swim in an outdoor pool, 4x per week, mornings only, the rest of the year it’s indoor pools, morning and evening practices, 4x per week. Sounds like I don’t get some of the choice that others do, but I couldn’t imagine paying that much per month either.
Damn, that $360 for Sept-March is pretty good.
I pay $320 for Sept-Dec (4 Months)
Pretty steep but expected for a private university in a big city.
The program is pretty good and lots and lots of options for workouts.
Good part is I can hit the weights for free (not really) because once you are in for Masters, you can do whatever you want.
I’m not currently a member of any club but for 4 years I was a member of a small low-key club (essentially fitness swimmers and a couple other triathletes) where it was ~200/year for 3x/week but no coach on deck or anything. There are competition oriented clubs where I am (Twin Cities) but they are much more $$ - $50/month for 3-4x/week or $70/month for unlimited.
We have 12 possible morning practice times a week. It’s anywhere from $75 to $105 per quarter depending on how many practices you want to go to a week.
Holy crap… things on my end are super $$.
It’s $88/mo or $800something/yr +$35 Masters swim canada fee.
It runs 12 months a year, 5 days a week… 2x/day for 4 of those days. We also swim in a great pool.
I did it this past year, as it was a great way to get in training at 5.30 in the AM, but am looking at my finances and going, “am I freaking nuts?”
The coaching is ok, not spectacular either. They have a difficult time getting coaches to come in for 1.5hrs at 5.30 am (and for what they pay them!). Nor are the workouts it tri-friendly per say. About 75% of us are triathletes and the coaches know that, but almost all of the workouts are short. On occasion we get a guest coach in who will put up at 200, 300, or 400 and our poor bodies barely know what to do.
I’ve been considering forgoing the membership for the year, but really hate swimming by myself!
I’m so impressed it’s so inexpensive everywhere else (and jealous)!
