What do you do with your old race tshirts?

I am remodeling my basement and one side is being closed in as a workout room. I was hoping to integrate old race tshirts in there somehow. Does anyone have any good examples? Ideas?

I give mine to goodwill.

Like most of you, I have lots of old shirts. I’ve spent my time in Hawaii over the past several years, a couple times with the family. So, I took all the shirts that had anything to do with Hawaii or Ironman and had them made into a quilt for our 13 year old daughter’s bed (Roscommon Quilts.) It was a terrific Christmas gift, the only one of it’s kind, which made it all the more special. Lots better than cleaning up the oil under the car.

I have the exact thing made from all the shirts I got from high school and college basketball. For race shirts, I was thinking of cutting out the front section of each shirt and attaching it to thin plywood or luan about 8" wide and 12" high and basically making a wallpaper out of them. It would look like the quilt but up on the wall. I was just curious if anyone else had done something similar or better.

I wear mine to show that I am serious business!

I use them as workout shirts til they start looking faded, then I use them to clean my bike. I once saw a patchwork quilt made out of the race logos from a bunch of shirts. It was kinda cool, but only because the shirts were actually different colors, not just white.

Oh, Heaven forbid … you can’t actually wear them!!! You can’t be a serious triathlete without a haughty disregard for your race shirt and not relegate it to the scrap heap…didn’t you get the memo?

x2 on the quilt. I’m working on my 5th now.

“what do you do with clothing”

um i wear it?

I donate the so-so ones, keep all the technical ones and nicely designed cotton ones. I wear whatever I keep.

I’d basically treat whatever t-shirts you have as a wallpaper. One wall of shirts would be cool.

I use them - stopped buying t-shirts years ago.

use it with simple green to clean the bikes…

wear them.

Exactly. It’s my only source for T’s.

Now, if they’d only start putting underwear in the bags then I’d be set.

My older ones that have become too worn out become workout shirts and eventually bike rags, have donated some as well. Like you, half of my basement is finished and we use it mainly as a workout room. One thing that my wife has done with some of her race shirts is made them into covers for throw pillows for the futon in that room.

I wear mine out to bars to impress chicks. And I always get a size too small to amplify my awesome physique.

I wear a few. Some become bike/car rags. Many are donated to the Salvation Army and I include them in my charitable contributions at inflated prices. Just kidding about the inflated prices. I have some tacked up to the basement ceiling where I ride the trainer to help deaden the sound of those early morning rides .

How do you manage to hide the muffin top then? Really loose pants?

When trying to impress the ladies, really loose pants and tight shirts are the only way to go. Invisible lat syndrome helps too.

Mine sit in a plastic bag in my trunk for emergencies. Need a clean shirt after workout, clean up spills, bike rag, gift, etc…
