What are the notable differences between Felt's IA10 and Argon 18's E-117+?

I’m in the market for a new bike and have pretty much settled between the Felt IA10 and Argon 18 E-117+.

Asides from the max wheel size difference (IA10 is 23mm and E-117+ is 25mm), what other noticeable differences are there between both bikes?

I’m pretty sure the Felt is cheaper in most markets. The cockpits are different too and in the builds I’ve seen the Argon 18 is less adjustable. However I probably prefer it in terms of integration.
When you say the Felt wheel max wheel size is 23mm, what are you refering to? Tyres or wheels rim internal width?
If it’s tyres, the Felt can take at least 25mm in GP4000SII on reasonably wide rims (19mm).
If it’s wheel rims then what’s the constraint? With a 23mm tyre I don’t see a problem and I reckon a 25mm tyre would probably be fine too.

I was referring to tyre size of 23mm based on Felt’s site.

I ran a 27mm zipp speed tangente on 808 firecrest wheel on my IA10 with no issues
.

It comes with a 23mm tyre.
I don’t know of Felt saying it won’t take larger?!

I’ve been riding mine on 25mm since I got it. Plenty space.

it’s entirely possible to run wider wheels/tires on the ia10. the problem isn’t the frame though, good luck adjusting the brakes that wide. that isn’t a problem with just the Felt though

I see the E-117+ has a max tire width of 25mm (https://www.argon18bike.com/en/bikes/triathlon/e-117-tri-plus).

So would it be fair to say that the IA10 has much more flexibility when it comes to tire and rim size?

Thsts a valid point. My solution was the following:

  1. remove stock brake
  2. Throw it away
  3. Install tririg omega x.
  4. Enjoy ease of adjustment and better braking

That was my solution too

Is the Argon 18 UCI legal? The IA is not.

Which is fine for me.

I currently only race 70.3’s.

I am highly biased, because I have an IA16 and I race 70.3 also. I would get another one in a minute, especially with the new colors, new calpac, and new draft box. I am running mine with wide Flo wheels and 25mm Conti GP4K2 tires front and back.

If your budget supports it, I would get the IA10 over the IA16. I have upgraded every part of my IA16, and electronic drivetrain will be my next upgrade. The cranks, wheels, and brakes on the IA16 are total crap. These are substantially better on the IA10. Then, you have the super cool electronic shifting.

The budget does support it and that is my current plan.

Thanks for the input.

ChrisT,

I have an 2017 E-117 but TriRig OmegaX site says that only the 2014 E-112 is compatible with the brake system. How did you alter the fork of your Argon to accept the OmegaX brakes?

Sorry - I have the Felt IA10.

Sorry, I mis-read the thread. Thanks for the reply.

Do you mind elaborating? Similar boat as OP, budget supports it if the change is worth it. DI2 and the brakes are easy to see for me; are the wheels and crank that bad on the 16?

Neither the wheels nor the cranks on either model (IA10 and IA16) are anything great, so you are basically spending 2k extra just to upgrade to di2 (2999 vs 4999).
If you want di2, I think the better deal is to get the frameset for 2499 and build it up yourself with good components and Ultegra di2.

Yeah that’s the direction I was originally planning on. I feel like I’d value nicer wheels than the ten more than I care about a different crank. I’ve never really noticed the difference.
