Am looking for a list of about 6 of the biggest(by entrants) and best ironman events scheduled for 2008.
I guess the best ones get sold out quickest but am not sure which ones they are.
Already have ironman Kona as number 1, but am looking for about 6 more. The reason being is that I wish to obtain great photo coverage of them to keep my website going.
Several half ironman races can be included also.
Guess Ironman Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA is also in the top six and the link on it is to my site.
Also I have a few contacts in the USA already to get photo/event coverage off but always keen to get some more contacts of photographers.
Hold on here - what are you selling? Even if you are not in the US, if you are in the game you already know the answer to your question. Top 6? Um, that would be all of em. (IronMan brand that is)
I am not selling anything. Didn’t do a check to see there was only 6 ironman races under the ironman brand in the USA(thought there was more. Outside of the USA there are ironman races not covered by the ironman brand. So there are only 6 ironman in the USA?
No wonder N.Z is struggling to fill the two ironman races here.
I am trying to make an interesting/popular website so that was the reason for the question
As far as have seen so far all the websites and magazines focus on the country they originate in. So I am interested to cover races from all over the place that are popular. Maybe it is just an average idea?
Just checked now and see you are right. There does look to be about ten 70.3 races however.
Only 7 full ironman races in the USA and as far as I can see they sell out pretty fast.
I hope to compete in some more ironman events but want to leave it to a few months out. Can see it is a problem with the events filling up so fast. Looks like there could be more ironman events in Europe and the USA. I know there is one more in Canada also.
So there are no more ironman races in North America?
Thanks to those people that have or do give some feedback however.
Actually I am looking to buy some images off anyone who might be photographing the events when they come around.
All of the us IronMan brand races (full distance) sell out in minutes. Half distance races from NAS sell out in weeks. Races such as mine (in its second year) will sell out in the weeks prior to the race date.
The reason I think that your question was silly is that it is very well known that NAS races sell out almost instantly.
IronMan brand races fill in less than 30 minutes. Canada, even less. Lake Placid I really doubt will have any online entry for 09 as it will be the 10th year for the race. I was there in 99 and will be again in 09 - I know that I am not the only one to have that idea.
Ironman vs iron distance - which are you looking for? Your subject line says your are looking for Ironman races which there are only 6 in the US. Ironman (NAS/WTC) races can be found at www.ironman.com
Some of the other races you found at trifind are irondistance races put on by other organizations that canot use the “ironman” name.
I am learning something. Wasn’t aware that races outside of the ironman brand couldn’t be called ironman.
Which ironman distance races outside of the ironman brand are of interest to most people?
Have some contacts in the USA that I could have asked but thought this forum would be interesting to guage a wider view point.
Am also interested to know of great adventure races in the USA? Can do a search on the internet for this also but it is interesting to hear it from people who have been there.
Suppose i am trying to sell myself to some event organisers(in the long run) who might see the benefit of having great images of their event posted on a website targetting people all over the place. So far it is working but I have had to contact the race directors directly.
Before I sell myself to event organisers thought it would be interesting to get a wider view on it.
Have had a niggling injury the past 2 years so followed the ITU circuit for 6 months and photographed about 6 events. The better ones were the smaller ones like Kitzbuhel and Edmonton. Being smaller things were a bit more friendly in my mind. It is interesting to note that many ITU triathletes said the race in Hungary was great because it was run in a smaller community.
Yes, it looks like I am turning into a triathlon/ironman groupie, but plan to compete more again now that things are better.
Enjoy watching the events and think it is good if they are spectator friendly to keep growing the sport.
I like promoting triathlon so focusing on the smaller friendly atmosphere ones will be good.
The biggest ones already have plenty of coverage anyway.

I’d have to give the edge to Silverman right now. That seems to be the most highly-regarded non-IM branded Iron Distance race: http://www.silvermannv.com/

Agreed. Although I don’t have much to compare it against.

No, your reply is the silly one. Not everyone’s world revolves around ironman or even triathlon. Plus, the OP doesn’t live in the US, so it’s a very good possibility that he would not know about NAS races.
I use the pictures to keep myself motivated also, so am aiming for special photos that stand out.
Strange as it may seem I enjoy watching triathlon and ironman on television but it doesn’t get much coverage in N.Z.
I say it like this because often I hear people say ironman is boring to watch. It is just so tough and thats what makes it interesting!
Will make a list of all the events talked about on this forum thread.
Will try and get some great photos from a couple of them each year on the triathlonshots website.
