What are the best goggles?

I can’t seem to find the ideal goggles. What do you use? What do you recommend?

Ideally I would like to protect my eyes and prevent those rings.

Swedes. http://www.trisports.com/swedishgoggles.html

I second and third swedes!

The best goggles are the ones that fit your face correctly. You’re on the right track when you can, without putting the headstrap on, push the eyecups up against your face with a moderate amount of pressure and feel them seal around your eye sockets.

Personally I’m a swedes gal. Have loved them since sophmore year in high school, and would never want to go back to big, awkward, heavy goggles.

i’ve been using tyr racetech goggles for years. comfy, inexpensive, and pretty good with not fogging up.

they look rather cheap and are actual very cheap in price…do they really work?

They feel cheap too, and you have to put the damed things together -but they’re the best goggles ever (assuming they fit your face).

It’s totally counter-intuitive that a plastic cup with no seal or gasket would be a) comfortable and b) water tight, but they really work! They aren’t the #1 choice of competetive swimmers the world over for nothing.

I mostly use beer goggles, they’ve never let me down at night.

I was a Swede user since high school and only this past year found the light that is the new TYR Socket Rocket 2.0. They have a slight amount of padding on the eye socket and are uber comfy.

I second the TYR racetechs. They are cheap and simple. You can even buy replacement straps or nose bridges. They seem to be popular because at the local swim store (High Point) they have full racks of different brands and models but the racetechs always seem to sell.

Who needs goggles? I just keep my face out of the water, ala Tarzan. You can see the aligators swimming on top of the water better if you swim this way. Oh, did I mention I’m always last out of the water? That may be true…as long as there aren’t alligators!

I don’t see how anyone wears goggles…I’m the sissy with the Seal (Sissy, Evidently Ain’t Light) Mask. I understand they’ve made a “tweener” size now, smaller than the original. I might try that one. No way are you going to see me with those hard plastic cups stuck in my eye sockets, though. I’ve seen too many eye surgeries as I pass by the eye-room!

I’ve used a lot of goggles over the years - Zoggs, Barracuda, Tyr, etc. The pair I’ve liked the best is the pair I just bought - AquaSphere Kaiman. Great visibility, super flexible rubber. They are very comfortable and they don’t leak at all. YMMV

I second the kaimans. I thought they are awesome. I used to use the seal mask but NEVER got a good fit. It leaked for a WHILE 1/2 Ironman. What a pain.

Swedes, the most comfortable, cheapest and leak proof. It might just take a couple of tries to properly adjust them.

I like the Lane 4 Oxygen Ice googles. I got them at Trisports.com for $11.95.

Another vote for Swedes. http://www.4swimwear.com/swedishgoggles.html

They are inexpensive enough to have multiple pairs for different conditions.

For training I like the TYR Racetechs. Comfortable and cheap. For racing I like the Aqua Sphere Kaimans. I’ve never had problems with leakage while racing. They also came out with a mirrowed version this year.

TYR Socket Rockets

They’re like swedes, but already put together and have a tiny rubber gasket.

You have got to go with swedes, I used every goggle in the market from TYR to baracuda to aquasphere, I am not talking single goggles here I am talking the whole range! after years of my lady telling me to use swedes I eventually tried the cheapand nastys and they are the best thing in the world!!!I am never going back to expensive goggles again

I’ll also second the Aquaspere Kaimans (if the Swedes don’t work for you - they didn’t for me). I also like the Lane4 products (Peter Reid’s goggles of choice). They have them at tri-zone.com as they are hard to find and a little pricey.

I started keeping all the goggles I’ve tried over the years (I have over 18 of all types). I don’t think there are any that I haven’t tried. They seem to be like bike seats and are very individualized. The Swedes either work or won’t. Same with Kaimans as they are quite large. The Lane4s are nice because they have 2 simple silicone straps and seem to fit a variety of people better.
