so what will be at the aidstations at kona this year
i thought they where useing precision drinks now but no mention of it
we come from OZ so its different offerings down our way
no athlete guide out yet (as usual)
also last time we raced in K town they had plasic bottles like u buy in the shops for the bike water (not normal biddons)
these didn’t really fit into the bottle cages very well , have they changed this now (for the better)
mahalo
For me last year it was the lack of carbohydrate in the bottles that caused me the most aggravation. For me to hit my 120g per hour I had to rely on aid stations for the last 1/4 of the bike after going through what I had leaving T1. I didn’t want to have to grab more gels to try and cobble together what I needed, I wanted to be able to drink the calories as I had done in the past but that wasn’t possible using Mortal so I had to grab Coke. I like Coke and use it during races but if they had a proper sport drink, it would have been easier. And Mortal doesn’t tase very good, IMO.
For me I like to carry as much of my own to garauntee what I’m getting. In Nice for example some of the electrolyte bottles tasted fine, others were mixed at what tasted like a horribly strong concentration.
I would bet a majority of participants aren’t able to grab more than 1 item per station, unless they nearly totally stop and shop around at multiple tables. If that is the case, how do you choose between water, gel/bar, and electrolytes?
I’m certainly not counting on mortal being accurately mixed, and I probably wouldn’t risk it anyway with the stevia. On the other hand, I do need electrolytes from somewhere. I also need some carbs though. I’m not some tiktok influencer trying to fast on fake sugar flavored electrolytes.
The solution: carry all my own stuff and get plain water from the aid stations. Hence 12 bottles all over the bike.
Ya it becomes hard for athletes to grab all the calories one needs due to the lack of calories in Mortal…
Mortal is actually a decent product. It’s just that it’s doesnt have very many calories so the issue becomes you need to grab “one more thing” at an aid station…
Yeah,I guess you see Kenda’s more on MTB and dirt bikes.
I should be running Schwable Marathons but I am too cheap,I mean, the bike only cost $699AUD ($460 USD).
