What all in one bike specific tool set / kit to buy?

has any new complete bike tool set
come out in the last few months ?

what tools are a must for DIY bicycle repairs . ?

park, pedro’s, most of the bike tool companies sell a “kit” with varying amount of spec (and $$)

for somebody just getting started building a tool set, I always say.

  • Good pump (you’ll use it every day)
  • A couple different types of allen wrenches from 2mm - 10mm (T handles, L handles, etc) Most bolts on the bike are allen. Again, a nice set will go a long way compared to the cheap stuff, less chance of rounding a head or stripping a bolt. Torx as well if you want to add on.
  • A torque wrench, bare minimum a 4nm, 5nm and 6nm key (again park/ritchey etc) but preferably something like a CDI adjustable.
  • Cable cutters
  • A rubber mallet
  • Screwdrivers (note a lot of phillips head bolts on bike parts aren’t actually american phillips. A JIS screwdriver will help keep you from stripping stuff)
  • Some grease
  • Chain lube
  • Tape (duct and electrical)
  • Tape Measure

That’s a solid start. Of course having a solid collection of tools is a lifelong goal that you are always adding to.

one tool i lack
is that tool used to take out a left crank arm star looking nut.
i had to rig a device for now.

but i know it will make the star thing get ugly with continual use

add the abbey crombie tool to remove the cassette and pedros vise whip wrench to hold the cassette.

Park tools BB wrench has that tool on the end of the handle.

I never bought a tool kit. Just kept buying various cycling-specific tools as I needed them. Already had good wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, so just needed BB wrench, chain whip, chain tool, cassette tool, and so on.

good catches, knew I forgot something. Also a BB specific removal/install tool is a must.

Pedro’s sells a small tool to remove the bolt from nds hallowtech cranks. Couple of dollars. ^ as said above also comes on the Park Tool

Totally depends on what you are prepared to do. If you are a guy/gal that wants to save a few bucks by doing basic adjustments or are you prepared to set up a shop in the garage. Two totally different needs/objectives with two totally different sets of answers to your initial question.

i think wheels mfg has a new BB tool that’s pretty sweet.

wow that’s a great price for an at home press. I spent about triple that to do the same thing
