What a bunch of wankers on this forum....let's talk about Marathon World Record :-)

Seems weird that on a day when a guy goes sub 2:04 in the marathon (after sitting out Beijing…, the bulk of posts on this forum are about an integrated water bottle, drag numbers and endless debate about a black carbon bike…come on guys!

I remember when Salazar broke 2:10, that was the talk of the endurance sports world…we weren’t worrying too much what bikes Hinault and Fignon were riding…we had more respect for the pure athletic deeds…not about the toys

Sorry, this is ST, back to the orginal programming about what toy will give you x lbs less of drag at 5 degrees yaw angle

If I have my math correct, his pace today was 70.5 seconds per 400meters…I can’t even do that for a single 400m anymore! What an amazing feat!!!

Dev

Dev…just want to be sure you didn’t miss this**.** Some of us were up at the crack of dawn checking it out ;o)

.

yeah but can he do flip turns

Seems insane that anyone can run nearly that fast, for 10k let alone 42k
.

I think he needs to wear aero clothing and have his shoes covered over (the tops of the laces) to make em more aero…if he had that, he’d have run 2:03.57  :-). Maybe an integrated aero waterbottle holder built into his hip bone…oh, that would be a fuelbelt and of course, those African runners don’t wear any bottle holders or barely drink

I was just wondering how fast Geb can run a 400m. If he can string over 100 of them at 70.5 second pace, I’m guessing his flat out speed must be in the 47-48 range!

I think I can take him in the 100
.

Well, being this fast involves a lot of hard work and a lot of good genes. Neither of these things are sexy to talk about or can be bought.

Pretty amazing feat!

Dev, where would that put him among elite men in the world? Top 100??? Fun to think about, yes, but I don’t think it translates across different distances well. If Michael Johnson could run 43.18 you wouldn’t ask if he could hold 47 for say, 24 more laps, would you?

No, I really was not thinking about whether Geb stacks up with the top sprinters…he clearly would not…but interesting to think about how fast he could go. I am sure there are a few guys on this forum alone who have ran sub 50 in their youth as sprinters and would still get smoked by this marathoner guy!!!

Sure, but he still must have a decent speed reserve to be able to hold that pace. Didn’t he post some VERY fast final laps over 5-10km during his track heyday? I wonder what those splits were?
Cheers
D.

Was he running in Newtons?

ah, beat me to it!

I thought he ran in these: http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/sneakers/all/images/81416_600.jpg
.

Fastest closing 400m was 54.37 (Seville WC 10k, 1999). Enjoy:

2:03:59 = 4:43 avg. mile

That’s sick

I agree. 10 different threads on a new TT bike, 2 on a new marathon WR. weird.

Amazing run by Geb. 2:03 is mind-boggling. 70.5 per 400 is just ridiculous. We are seeing new ground being broken in running of late. With Bolt’s performance in the 100 and now Geb’s in the marathon, what is in the realm of possibility is being redefined. Remarkable.

Geb vs Bolt at 400m…who is gonna win?

At 800m, I say Geb takes Bolt…at 600m it is a toss up… at 400m, it goes to Bolt for sure!

I think bolt could probably beat him in the 400 running backwards

=)
.

No doubt. That performance trumps any product introduction to date.

I would like to see them race a marathon - Geb would take the lead after 500m and showboat to the crowd for the remaining 41.7km.
