Wetsuit zipper repair options? Cost?

Howdy all,

You may have heard that I broke the zipper on my (borrowed) Orca Predator wettie the other day… which was quite the bummer :frowning:

Now, I’m finally getting around to looking into getting it repaired, but I have no clue where to start?? To make matters worse, I appear to have misplaced the zipper pull itself, so unless I find it someplace in the car or my tri stuff, then it looks like the entire zipper may have to be replaced. CRAP.

Where can I get a wetsuit zipper fixed or replaced?

Any idea how much that may cost?

Thanks so much in advance for the info!! I really need to get this squared away, so I can return the suit (it is LOOOOONG overdue) to its rightful owner.

When I broke the zipper for my wetsuit I called a few dive shops for wetsuit repair. One of them was able to direct me to a repair person. It did not matter to her that it was a triathlon wetsuit. She was quick and resonably priced.

THX!!! I never woulda thought of that, and there’s at least one local dive shop right around here.

I guess the other semi-obvious option is to contact Orca directly too.

Any other idears? Keep 'em coming!

Same idea. I had a dive shop install ~10" zippers at the ankles of my Aleeda triathlon wetsuit. Pretty cheap. Make sure they use really beefy zippers.

If you ever go to buy a new wetsuit, and the brand you choose is T1, repairs like this that you are seeking are free for as long as you own the wetsuit. That is the problem with every brand except ours and QR, there is nowhere you can send it for free repair.

Hi. My zipper broke on my wetsuit as well. I sent it back today to http://www.expresswetsuit.com/intro.html as per a recommendation. If the teeth are missing in the zipper it is $30, if not then it is $15.00.

See this is exactly what happens when you get all Uber fit …you start goin all Chuck Norris on the freakin wetsuit zipper ; )

Next you’ll be rippin your aerobars off the stem and shit !

Tip of the Day- I like to get some Body Glide all over the zipper itself before I put it on…it makes it glide like butta ; )

Nah, it’s what happens when I start listening to Dev’s wisdom. I always have had somebody zip me up - it’s actually mandatory w/ my other wettie, a Piel sleeveless, since the dual zippers a literally impossible to self-zip, even if I were a Cirque du Soleil performer. (they’re pretty f’n hard to zip for whomever is assisting me, actually)

So, I finally self-zipped it for the first time earier last week (after being chided by Dev that I aughta be able to do that), and whaddayaknow? It was fine. So rather than ‘bother’ somebody to zip me for the E-man swim, I figgered I’d just do it myself, showing off my newfound independence, etc  See where that got me? :-p I shoulda gone all Steve Larsen on it, and ridden my bike so fast that I went back in time before it happened, so I coulda asked ya to zip me up.

I’ll remember the Body Glide zip tip for next time, thx!

And to the other posters - thx fer the info!!! (and the link)

Hi Emilio,

Funny you should pipe in here - I am very seriously considering picking up a T1 to replace my ‘stable’ of blah wetsuits (well, it wont be a stable anymore once I get the borrowed one fixed and returned to where it belongs)

So, a quick, and somewhat pointed question for ya - is there any benefit to buying my T1 suit directly thru your website, as opposed to a retail distributor? I ask this because, thru the power of the internet, it’s very easy to get a 10%, 15%, or even 20% coupon or sale from time to time (actually, those first 2 you can get all the time w/ standard coupon codes), free shipping, etc.

On a $300+ purchase, this isn’t chump change.

Thx in advance!

Because emilio is the shit :)… he emailed me like 3 times on sunday so i could get the right size for my wetsuit.

Thats a good enough reason for me to go directly through them.

I used to work at a dive shop and many times I repaired zippers. If the slider just came off with no damage it can be easy to fix. It may not be as gucci as having it fixed by a pro, but it will be functional. I’ll explain for anyone who is interested:

  1. Cut the bottom tooth (or two) of both sides of the zipper.
  2. Re-insert the slider by feeding it into the zipper at the bottom (make sure it is right side up).
  3. Use small cable-ties (aka zip-ties) to replace the teeth you cut out.
  4. Enjoy your fixed wetsuit.

Any dealer that has stock and that sells the T1 means they are authorized to sell it. If they discount it to you for one reason or another, then good for you…jump on it. You still get the same guarantee and warranty, as that part comes from us. Our website offers free shipping and no sales tax, which ends up being about 15% of the cost, but either way my friend.

So order it from them or from us, it is up to you.
