Wetsuit Rules Help

My wife wants me to buy her a specific Blueseventy wetsuit but I want to make sure it conforms to the rules first…

It’s a Blueseventy AXIUM

I’m concerned about this specific feature:
**Forearm propulsion panel **(They look like dimples…)

Would this wetsuit be against rules governing Ironman events? She will also do Multisport Canada and Trisport Canada events as well.

We received cryptic responses from both the Canadian race organizations - I dont think they understood what we were asking as their response was rather generic and just linked to useless rules that were left open to interpretation. The one organization said ‘All Blueseventy Wetsuits are allowed’ - except they may not be aware of this specific model since it looks to be EXCLUSIVE to the UK. So again, I doubt their response.

What is ST thoughts on this?

Cheers!

PS - it HAS to be this specific model because she said it is ‘pretty’. I would rather save the money and get used/cheaper since it will not see much use but well… if you’re married then you know how it is…

Well it is a very nice looking suit.

I read through the specs and while just gave it a cursory look, it appears to be compliant to me. Most of the recent rulings on suits is regarding the thickness in the suits. Most current suits run between 1.5 - 5mm for thickness, and it is not by coincidence that the maximum was set at 5mm. I am sure if they choice 3 or 4mm a lot of manufacturers as well as athletes would have been pissed. The Water Rover was one of the only banned suits I know of, but the thickness was also as high as 10mm.

My only concern is I did not see a specific quote on the maximum thickness on the suit. Since it is a newer suit and a major manufacturer, I am willing to bet that Blue Seventy has kept it in compliance.

On your concern on the arm panel, that is nothing out of line with some of the suits that are out there. Tyr has their catch panels, and in fact the panels on this suit remind me a lot of the Orca suits.

There is one suit I saw last year that basically had an hard panel/fin and have not seen a ruling against that yet.

Will you post pics of your wife in the suit?

The one organization said ‘All Blueseventy Wetsuits are allowed’ - except they may not be aware of this specific model since it looks to be EXCLUSIVE to the UK.

That model may be specific to the UK, but the panels you are worried about are on all Blue70 suits AFAIK. I have a 2009 Sport and 2010 Reaction and both have that panel to some extent. My wife was looking at a 2011 Reaction on Monday and it had the panels as well.

Will you post pics of your wife in the suit?

That was funny. All business until the last line. Nice work.

Blue Seventy has a page on their website that explains the differing wetsuit rules.

The Ironman events are hosted by WTC which is specifically included in their chart. ITU and/or USAT rules governs most other triathlon events. In any case, it looks to me like all of Blue Seventy’s wetsuits comply with applicable rules in triathlon.

Coasterx. I found this and apolgize we should have contacted you from blueseventy earlier. This suit is fully legal and is allowed in all aspects from thickness to forearm panels etc. This AXIUM suit is a special make up for a large UK retailer and this is why you will not see it featured on the blueseventy generic site. As only one store has the suit it would not be fair to our retailers to have this promoted when the sales channel is exclusive.
