My friend is bummed because he cannot find a wetsuit to match his 5’7" and 218 lb frame. Told him I’d ask around on this forum. Anybody else out there with the same dimensions? He needs brand names, models and sizes if possible. Thanks!!
Try looking at the Desoto T1 - it s atwo piece so you can mix and match top and bottom to fit.
Just have him get a XL suit and trim the ams and legs to length? Call DeSoto, they will suggest sizes and trim accordingly.
I used to swim in an Orca sleveless, size “SS”. I always thought the SS was for Short and Stocky. I’m 5’7", and raced in that suit as high as 190#. Now at 158#, it lets water in. For that matter, PM if interested. I’ve got a new suit that fits me now.
sounds like you should sell it to his friend
.
Desoto T1 will work with the right combo I would think, it would be the best place to start and they have great customer service.
Andrew
I’m 5’ 7", 205 and I have a QR. Some of their suits come with length options, I got an XL - Short. Very happy with the fit. I would be careful about just buying an XL and altering it because it still may be too long in the torso and the rise.
With wetsuits, unlike with the clergy, it’s the man who fits the suit, not the suit that fits the man. Seriously, he should try the Desoto 2 piece. Length and girth of different body parts will determine whether parts of the suit can be trimmed to fit. If for example he has thinner forearms or calves, cutting the sleeves or legs short will result in a poor leaky fit. Maybe in addition to wetsuit shopping there should be some body modification through diet and exercise before taking the plunge.
Why not custom? I can’t believe there is no custom suit option available to him. Custom suit manufacturer here in the UK (snugg) has made suits at some time for just about every top level British athlete - and they’ve been making them for over 25yrs (wetsuits, not specifically triathlon suits).
he’s short and beefy…sounds a lot like me. i’m 5’10" and 230ish…i went with the desoto for the sizing options…worked well.
the only problem with trimming stuff is that you get big gaps around the ankles…that wouldn’t be good.
give them a call, emilio posts here and they have top notch customer service, see if they can help him out.
I’m 5’8" and 215-220 so pretty darn close. I wear a Zoot sleeveless in an xl and an Orca Apex2 in a sz 9. Both fit reasonably well with the Zoot being a little long in the legs and the Orca needing plenty of time to get on correctly. If I don’t take the time with the Orca, it will pull at my shoulders.
Are you… Oops, I mean… Is “your friend” a weightlifter?
dude. no offense but that’s more than “beefy.” that’s fuckin fat!!!
i know because i was 225 lbs at 5’9." which is way over the top bmi…borderline morbidly obese. both you guys need to lay off the all-you-can-eat buffets and get some more mileage in.
i now weigh 155.

Well, saying someone is beefy is much more polite than calling them fat. Besides, you don’t necessarily* have *to be fat at 5’9" 225. There have been more than a few running backs and bodybuilders with those dimensions.
I wear an orca and I am 5’6" 200lbs, I have tried on all the models that the shop had in stock. I purchased the lower end full length and it fits fine.

Let’s go to the weight room and you can call me morbidly obese. While I enjoy participating, and like to think of myself as competitive in them, the world does not revolve around endurance sports. I certainly can afford to lose some weight, and plan to race at 200 even this season, but I have some friends who are brutally honest and not a one of them has suggested I may be “morbidly obese”.

maurice jones-drew has tree trunk thighs, sub 5% bodyfat and he’s “only” 5’7", 212.
okay brah, i’m sorry. delete the “morbidly” part.
look. i was once a fat pig. i admit it. people have no problem agreeing with me. i’m not saying that you are.
No it’s not fat, it’s fuckin Eric Cartman Beeefy. I’ve been there too, 5’7" 225lbs and I was a goddamn bowling ball.
Desoto.

Visit the site and check out the T1 sizing chart. I think you will find a better fit with Desoto with the top and bottom. The wetsuit comes off quick and seems faster than my other wetsuit that does not fit. I am about 60 inches and around 120 plus in the fat season. Even with my weight down, other wetsuit are too tight in the thighs and just don’t fit my bubble butt. I have the 2007 T1 and just ordered the 2008 model for my husband.
