I am a newbie (a kick ass newbie) to open water swimming and long distance triathlons, and I am looking for the best wetsuit for a petite woman. I am 5’0" and 105 pounds. I have yet to find a tri store with XS sizes so ordering one might be my best bet. Advice?
For some reason, I can not reply to private messages. So, if you would like to send me a private message, please email me at debbie02@gmail.com Thanks!
My wife is your size (even a bit smaller). She has an women’s XS Xterra wetsuit that works great for her. It fits her well, she did cut the arms and legs back a little.
My wife is 5’ and 97lbs (she wanted me to point out ‘every inch a beauty’)
The only suit she tried that went small enough was the 2XU in an XS. She tried 2XU, Zoot, Blue Seventy and a couple of others I don’t remember.
I think the Aquasphere guy may be on to something. One of my friends is also tiny and she wears their XS which was a too large for my wife but I have a feeling the XXS would have worked, I don’t think they were available at the time but the demo days guys said they would be out soon, seems they have arrived!
She is fairly proportionate and her issue was always the height of the body part of the suit. At the same height I think that might be your issue also, unless you have short legs in comparison to your bod. I would take the Aquasphere guy up on his offer and see if you can maybe get a demo or at least a return. After that try 2XU. The closest one after that was the Blue Seventy Helix, which is not exactly cheap but does fit very snug.
Just remember that a new wetsuit, out of water, should feel very snug.
I believe you can also ‘cut and shut’ a wetsuit, effectively making it fit you better but that’s best left to someone that knows what they are doing.
I’m almost exactly your size. Had an XS 2XU that fit pretty well in the body but the neckline rode a bit high and the velcro part in the back would rip little pieces of my hair out every time I turned my head to breathe. Ended up with a pretty sexy bald spot and chafe/burn that wasn’t helped by body glide.
I am now in an XS Sailfish that I LOVE. Fits awesome and no more hickies - sadly not even from a non-wetsuit source
We go down to XS on our women’s wetsuits, and they are quite small. We’d love for you to give us a shot. We have a 30 day money back guarantee, so if you don’t love the suit, you can return it for a full refund. We’ll pay return shipping.
I am 5ft and 94lb and I get my wetsuits custom made by Blue Seventy because their smallest ones are too big. It doesn’t cost any more than off the shelf ones and you end up with something with fits you properly. I am in NZ so use the NZ division but I am sure you could just contact the US division (I assume you are in the US) from their website.
They even print your name for you where the size normally is - or in my case they printed “Little Muppet” thanks to the clown who filled in my measurements form for me…
They are about 20 minutes away in Sheridan. They have a great selection of our suits, as well as at least one other of the leading brands in the industry.
The folks at KE know their stuff and can definitely help you get into a great suit for a good price!
