Wetsuit for Long Torso, Wide Shoulders

I have a long torso which makes for a tight fit through the shoulders of my current wet suit. Yes, I have taken the time to put it on correctly.

Regardless of my efforts, my shoulders are cooked within a few hundreds meters of the start of any race.

Anyone else 6’2 with a long torso have any luck finding a brand/model that works. Trying to keep the price reasonable (under $450ish).

Thanks.

I found the back to have an enormous amount of stretch. They also tested out pretty fast when I did my wet suit testing.

Look at DeSoto two piece.

X2 for the DeSoto T1 - really easy to find the right combo for us long torso big shoulder types, plus the best support and return policy in the business. You buy the top and the long john pieces according to what fits, so you might have one size for the top and another for the bottom. Plus it’s very flexible and comfortable, and I haven’t found it any slower to get off, in fact maybe a little faster with practice.

My apologies for the blatant promotion, but it’s personal - I am 6’2" and have a long torso just like you, and fit Nineteen’s Medium size very well.

Nineteen size chart here - http://www.nineteenwetsuits.com/user_sizechart.html

Hope this helps.

I am 6"1, 32" inseam, 195lbs, 45" chest - Zoot Synergy Large fits me perfectly. Snug but not tight and once you are in the water you don’t even think about wearing a suit.

Granted this approach might suck but give Trisports.com a call. Tell them you are looking for a suit and going to buy three to four that are pretty close, choose the one you want and return the others. Make sure their return policy is explained up front and avoid wearing any deodorant, lotion or anything else that might mark up the suit when you try it on.

HTH.

GO with the black Pearl DeSoto, no questions that you can get the two pieces to fit you. That is the problem with one piece, all have different cut lenghts. I’m the same as you, long torso and swimmers shoulders. You will probably be a size 5 or 6, or a combination of both. Try it out, swim in it, you have 2 weeks to get a full refund it you do not like it…

Thanks to everyone for the recos. Hope to make the purchase this weekend and will follow-up with my choice.

I too have a long torso and I have an Orca suit that fits really well, it’s a couple of years old and was the cheapest one they made but hey, it fits! Check into their suits if your local shops stock them

How did you get on?

I’m 6’1" with relatively wide shoulders and narrow hips. I currently have a SMT B70 Axis and have come to the conclusion it’s not doing me any favours. It’s really tight around the chest and shoulders and seems to work against me rather than with me.

A friend is going to lend me an MS nineteen frequency to try out but am curious for any other recommendations

let me guess you didnt read the size chart
.

Yes I did. I’m 160lbs and the next size up - M - was too baggy around the bottom of my back.
I’m guessing the shoulder flexibility of the Axis is less than the Helix.
It’s a snug fit but in all the right places (i thought). I didn’t have a chance to swim in it before I got it so assumed it would loosen up in the water - which it does when filled. I might well try out the Helix in SMT and M before getting another brand though. B70 have been very helpful.

i would go up to the M in the helix

im 5’10 145lbs and find the SMT helix is snug

What are your chest and shoulder to shoulder measurements. I have more of a normal torso length but found the Orca and Blue Seventy suits to be tight for my shoulders. I think the Tyr Hurricane Cat 3 would fit both your size and price considerations, and if you can’t find one of those, I would try the Quintana Roos or Zoots. Besides the TYR suits, the Quintana Roo was (Older Superfull) was the only one that felt really good in the shoulder.

I ended up switching to a Synergy and have been very happy thus far. The rubber is extremely flexible and I feel much less constrained through the shoulders.
