Was interesting talking to Rob about why Nationals has not gotten back to the West Coast. He said they have been trying to find a venue that would work.
He told me he might be coming out to the Challenge Rancho Cordova race on Oct 5th to look at the folsom site for a possible race. Since I have done
races there many times, I talked to him some about pro and cons.
What does this mean though. Out of Arizona, California they cant find an area that works? Or is there more push back from the communities for not wanting to host the circus that it entails.
Is it due to the size of the facility that is needed?

From what I have been hearing, it starts with a RD that wants to work with USAT about having their site used. Also the cost commitment is huge.
And based on the last nationals size, yep it would seem, as I was talking to Rob, the site has to be pretty large, close to hotels, etc.
The site at Folsom could be make to work. Great swim. Great run course. Bike course could be closed down to any car issues, as they do in there races they do there now.
Just seems the Bay Area is a perfect middle point for the entire west coast area, but, all starts with a local RD wanting to work with USAT.
The pleasanton site at Shadow cliffs is pretty good also.
Most sites I know would have to have busing to get folks there. They did that at Portland so it can be done.
dude no one wants to ride a bus to get to a race. That’s so 1990’s and just adds a layer of complexity that no one wants to deal with.
I’d love a west coast race, but really MKE is among the better if not the best race venue I’ve been to in the last 3 years. I’ve only been to about 10-12 races though, including multiple big city races.
Nothing really comes close to all the MKE offered, maybe Tempe, AZ. Maybe. But then your stuck with an urban crit style 4 loop oly bike course and that’s just stupid (and dangerous from what i’ve seen)

I would also love a west coast race, but MKE is a really nice venue. MKE was great for spectators and the athletes being walking distance from a bunch of hotels. Busses are a hassle compared to that. How would the busses work, would they be running back and forth for the whole race? So they would have enough busses for both the athletes and the spectators? I really like the bag check at Milwaukee and that would just be a hassle with T1 being separate from the finish.
My only complaints would be the steep ramp for the swim exit and it needs some hills on the bike and the run.
