Weird foot pain, please help

So with the GCT 1/2 IM less than a week away, I am suddenly afflicted with an odd pain in my foot after running on Sunday. I didn’t feel anything while I was running, but ever since then the bottom-middle-outside of my left foot (directly across from my arch, not the arch itself) has been really sore, with varying degrees of soreness if I move or flex it. The soreness has also moved to the bottom of my heel a couple of times, and then back, but it’s only sore in one place at a time, not both. The heel pain sounds like PF, but the tendon pain doesn’t really fit the description, and I also didn’t feel any extra pain this morning when I woke up. Does anyone have idea what this could be, and how to treat it? It’s not a muscle, so should I apply heat instead of ice? Massage, or not? Would an anti-immflamatory do any good? I’m not familiar with this type of injury, so I’d appreciate any non-binding, non-medical advice on how I could mitigate it over the next few days.

Sounds like you are having problems with your peroneus tendon. Guess what. I’m wearing a boot on my foot right now because my peroneus tendons are bothering me. Outside of the foot. In front of and below the ankle bones. Sometimes it hurts underneath the foot. Here are some links:

My doctor’s treatment was the boot, ice 3 times a day, and an anti-inflammatory drug 2 twice a day. I see him in two weeks and if I’m feeling good in a week, I can start working out on the elliptical. I can still bike and swim because it doesn’t affect it much. If you want it to get better quickly, stay off of your feet as much as possible. As soon as I got the boot, my pain subsided substantially.

Good luck.

Another thing to consider is the cuboid bone, which can sometimes get out of kilter - I think the term for this is “subluxed”. The cuboid bone is more or less on the opposite side of the highest part of your arch - that’s medial, the cuboid is lateral.

My chiropractor has treated this very effectively the sporadic times it subluxes, and even before my days with her it would reslove itself within a few days. You might also have some luck self-treating by pressing the area against a firm but rounded surface - think about trying to “force” the cuboid upward. What you will likely feel if your cuboid is subluxed is a constant dull ache in the middle of the outside of your foot, just at the bend where the bottom meets the side. I hope your problem is only the cuboid, as it has never been debilitating for me. Let us know if you get a firm diagnosis…and have a great GCT 1/2!
